Most people pick a park, a beach, or maybe a trendy city street for their engagement photos. Sarah and Chris chose a cemetery. Their vision was to shoot something that felt like them, and that meant something a little dark.
“Some inspiration definitely came from The Addams Family and The Macabre,” Sarah said. “We leaned into the ’til death part of the vows – not in a morbid way, but in a deeply meaningful one. It honoured the idea that love lasts through all of life’s seasons, even to the end of our journey here on earth.

Photographer Kal was immediately on board. “Sarah and Chris had a vision for the session and I wanted to get creative with lighting and try some fun techniques”, she explained. “I loved how different and unique their point of view is. I think this session shows that you can be completely yourself – bold, unconventional, and unapologetically authentic. There are no rules when it comes to your engagement session or wedding. You get to make it yours, whatever that looks like. That kind of freedom is exactly what Rock n Roll Bride is all about.”

Both Sarah and Kal had thoughts on the industry, too. “I think the wedding industry often prioritises trends over individuality, which can make it hard for couples who don’t see themselves reflected in what’s popular,” Sarah said. “But a wedding should be more than just a curated moment, it’s the start of a new direction in two people’s lives.”

Kal added, “I really do love weddings – they’re such a beautiful celebration of love. But the best ones, in my experience, happen when couples fully lean into who they are. Keep the traditions that resonate, toss the rest. To me, there’s no such thing as ‘in’ or ‘out.’ The only thing that matters is how the couple wants to celebrate their love and their story.”
