The main references for Christie and Kevin’s wedding were The Shining, the 1970s and 1990s with lots of ideas pulled from Rock n Roll Bride magazine! A nightclub venue in downtown Saratoga Springs, NY was the backdrop, with everywhere they went that day being within walking distance. The morning began at The Adelphi Hotel, where they got ready and started their photo session. From there, they moved into Congress Park, bringing their entire wedding party with them into the indoor carousel.

The ceremony and reception both took place at The Night Owl. The procession set the tone immediately. Christie’s grandmother, their ‘Flower Nan’, came down the aisle at 90-years-old, scattering petals from inside a disco ball. The ring bearer, their English Bulldog Rodney Dangerfield, then made his way down the aisle with Christie’s cousin guiding him.

Christie’s brother, officiated, kicking off proceedings with a group selfie (highly encouraged!) The ceremony itself was comedic, emotional, and full of personal in-jokes and references such as hidden lyrics from Blink 182’s All the Small Things, disguised as well wishes.
At the reception, guest posed in front of a ribbon photo backdrop build by Christie and a friend. Instead of a traditional guest book, they had a retro rotary phone which recorded messages. The couple also created a custom deck of playing cards where guests could leave notes directly onto the cards.

At 10pm, the formal reception was over but not the night, as the Red Room opened up exclusively for the wedding party, with the rest of the club being opened back up to the public. “Our afterparty went on til 2am”, Christie told us, “and there was still no shortage of music, laughter and memories.”

Although Rock n Roll Bride helped them massively they still encountered the familiar landscape of wedding planning platforms and found them useful but limiting. “Having resources like The Knot, Wedding Wire, Zola, Pinterest etc were great, but it is very overwhelming and mainly geared towards people that want a ‘traditional’ wedding”.”, the bride said. “Rock n Roll Bride was the biggest inspiration!”

Their advice to other couples reflects the same mindset. “Leave preconceived notions at the door and to have the BEST time of your life!” she advises. “Have your wedding day showcase your blended personalities and unique style. We’re so grateful to have the opportunity for our wedding to be showcased in Rock and Roll Bride!”
