Olivia and Taylor got married in Los Angeles, bringing their love of Halloween to life in a way that felt equal parts spooky and nostalgic. October was the obvious choice for the date, with a black and orange palette, pumpkins, skeletons, and nods to Frankenstein and his Bride setting the tone. As they put it, “We basically wanted to throw the greatest Halloween party that our guests will talk about for years to come.”

The couple skipped a church ceremony in favour of Millwick, a converted livery and cold-storage warehouse in the LA Arts District. Its garden courtyard and industrial grand hall gave them space to stage the Halloween wedding they had imagined. They asked their best friends from high school to co-officiate. “We felt who better to marry us than the people who know us best!” they said. A Spanish guitar trio played through the ceremony and cocktail hour, with Taylor walking in to an acoustic version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Olivia making her entrance with her father to Montaña by the Gipsy Kings.

Olivia’s Spanish heritage shaped the menu, with guests choosing between meat, seafood, or vegetarian paella. Her family’s bakeries in LA handled the desserts, creating sugar skull cookies, mummy guava pastries, and ghost marshmallow brownies alongside the cake.

Their DIY projects ran through the whole reception. Guests found their seats through a VHS movie seating chart, each tape relabelled with names, tables, and an ode to Blockbuster nostalgia. Tables were themed around Universal Monsters and styled with marigolds, gourds, golden skulls, skeleton hands, and candles. Every place setting came with a customised menu and a ‘toe tag’ stating the guest’s cause of death.

A full-size Beetlejuice projection played as people ate paella, and a hidden nook at the venue became a shrine to The Shining, complete with red tricycle, skeleton bartender, typewriter, and the message “All weddings and no cake make Taylor a dull boy.” Their guestbook, of course, was the Handbook for the Recently Married.

Music mattered to this couple as much as the décor. The couple booked the Lucky Devils, an eight-piece band who delivered the 70s classic rock vibe they wanted with full brass and percussion. For portraits, their photographers The Hendrys and videographers Sharkpig shot them running through the Arts District, posing in front of murals, revisiting the spot of their first date, and wearing Beetlejuice masks. “They made us feel like we were both high-end runway models and kooky horror film characters at the same time”, they said.

Looking back, Olivia says her favourite part of the day was seeing the whole set-up before the ceremony. “It brought tears to my eyes how the spooky Halloween wedding of my dreams had come to life.”
Their advice for anyone planning a wedding is simple, yet vital: “Always remember this wedding is for the two of you. While you may want to make sure everyone else is happy, it’s important that the two of you are happy with the decisions you’re making. Don’t be afraid to go the non-traditional route! Add your personal flair to your wedding that really conveys who you are as a couple!”
