This is what a laid-back wedding looks like. Elena and Juan Luis got married in the centre of Madrid with very little fuss but a lot of personality. The celebration was casual and music-driven with retro touches.

The bride’s dress was made by her godmother, who is a seamstress. “She knew exactly what I wanted,” said Elena. “It didn’t have the price tag of a designer gown, but it was perfect.” The rest of the styling followed that same DIY yet minimal spirit. The stationery and most of the décor, were also homemade.

They used music as a common thread throughout the entire celebration. Their table plan was made from records and their musical choices were really important. The bride walked down the aisle with her parents to Nothing But a Heartache by The Flirtations and they exited to Bring a Little Lovin’ by Los Bravos. “Every song we picked it our personalities and added a special, personal touch to every moment”, Elena said.

The couple’s friends and family were central to the day. There was no dress code and they just wanted everyone to have a great time. “I think what made our wedding special were the guests themselves. We have family members and friends who are a bit eccentric (in a very good way). Seeing elderly relatives having drinks early in the morning at our usual bars gave the day a very special, one-of-a-kind vibe.”

“The party was wild – exactly how we wanted it to be. Relatives let loose on the dance floor, inflatable guitars flew through the air, and it felt like a nonstop rock ‘n’ roll concert.”
Their advice for other couples? “Plan well in advance, but when the wedding day arrives, forget about every last detail and focus on truly enjoying the moment.” We couldn’t agree more.
