Sin City Inspired Engagement Shoot

It’s very rare that we feature engagement shoots on Rock n Roll Bride anymore, there are just too many awesome real weddings to share instead! However when Kelsey and Gavin’s Sin City inspired engagement shoot landed in my inbox, I knew it had to be published. I have a feeling you’re going to LOVE this too!

Their photographer, Pol, told me all about the session. “They’re set to get married on December 9th of this year. They have always a bit of pin up-ish (especially Kelsey) and we wanted to shy from the typical Utah nature/ landscape theme for their engagement shoot. Instead we decided to shoot around Salt lake city to get a sense of the winter urban vibe.”

Yes, You Can Have the Understated Elopement of your Dreams!

adorable utah elopement (22)

Full disclosure: this isn’t a real wedding… BUT I had to feature it anyway because I love the idea of running away to a mountain and having an adorable and completely understated elopement ceremony!

“I have always wanted to photograph a real, true elopement and have never gotten the chance!” wrote wedding photographer Brittni Willie. “I think being from Utah, most brides think they must have elaborate weddings with everyone they know (and don’t know) in attendance and I wanted to challenge that and show people how beautiful and yet simple an elopement can really be.”

“I suggested the idea to one of my previous wedding couples two days before we actually shot the elopement. We planned the whole thing in two days which I also thing really adds to authenticity I wanted to capture in the shoot. There were multiple parts of this session that I didn’t want to feel forced, or include too many vendors (if any) and spend hours of shooting to get 5 ‘perfect’ shots. We spent $80 in total. I wanted it to feel REAL.”

Black, Gold and Purple Wedding Ideas

blackdress_amycloudphotography29

With a vintage black dress as the starting point, photographer Amy Cloud set out to style and shoot an alternative, yet elegant wedding inspiration session. The shoot took place on The Great Salt Lake in Utah.

“I love untraditional weddings and knew I wanted to do a shoot with a black dress”, she explained. “Once I found the dress everything else fell together. I wanted a slight dark yet romantic feel. I incorporated golds and purples to tie the theme together.”

Sparkle Motion: A Grungy Glittery Wedding Shoot

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

My working title for this blog post was ‘Sparkle Motion’… because it’s the first thing that popped into my head when I started to write the feature. It stuck, because after thinking long and hard, I couldn’t imagine anything else being as apt. These glorious pictures were submitted by Utah based wedding photographer Natalie Wall.

“I had been wanting to do a moody stylized bridal session for a while”, she wrote. “While I love working with clients, it can become creatively exhausting. Anytime you have a collaboration of people with different ideas, you tend to get multiple potential outcomes. As an artist, it can be very difficult to put aside your creative preferences to please those you are working with and/or for. This shoot was, essentially, to liberate myself from just that. I wanted to create something, using challenging lighting, to create a nontraditional mood – dark and romantic, edgy and beautiful. Something I could see out from start to finish, while remaining in artistic control.”

Utah Salt Flats Wedding Portraits: Erik & Hayley

EmmyLowePhotoHayley.Eric.Bridals-44

Erik and Hayley were married on May 4th and a few days after they went to the Saltair Salt Flats in Salt Lake City, Utah with their photographer for some unforgettable wedding portraits!

“While staying true to their Utah roots, Erik and Hayley wanted a landscape that strayed from the beaten path”, photographer Emmy Lowe told me. “The rugged terrain juxtaposed perfectly with Hayley’s classic dress that screamed unique while maintaining a classic beauty”

“From Erik’s hair to Hayley’s tattoos, they both placed their own unique signature on the shoot and proved that their individual rawness could combine to create something beautiful. My inspiration for this shoot was simple. I wanted something that highlighted them. Nothing to distract the real beauty which was their love.”

Hayley’s gorgeous dress was from Haroon’s Boutique and the flowers were done by Lilac and Honey.

Utah Mountains Elopement: Patrick & Trisha

MountainElopement_JessieAlexisPhotography-60

Patrick and Trisha eloped in Utah, just off the Alpine Loop Road, in Provo Canyon above the Sundance Resort. They had just a few family members in attendance and the bride wore a short lace dress from H&M.

“The inspiration for our wedding was just a desire for a day centered on our union”, explained Trisha. “We just wanted to celebrate our love with a few members of our family! Our decision to elope is definitely what made our wedding unique. Marrying up in the mountains with a small intimate group made it particularly special. And keeping it a secret from most of our friends and relatives made it exciting too!”
