A Carefree & Gender-Fluid Elopement

Imagine what your wedding could be like if you had no-one else but yourselves to please. If you could wear what you wanted, invite who you wanted and spend the day exactly as you liked, no questions asked. This doesn’t have to be a fantasy and although these images are from a photo shoot rather than a real ceremony, I think they’re going to inspire you to look to yourselves for your wedding concept and ideas, rather than getting lost in a world of Pinterest boards and Facebook groups!

“Together we made a point to focus this shoot on the newlyweds and their relationship with each other”, explained photographer Peyton Olivia. “This shoot showcases a carefree style of wedding ceremony. Stepping out of the bounds of traditional marriage procedures allows for non-denominational affiliation, the acceptance of chosen family members, rather than biological, and the growing gender fluid aspects of a more modern age.”

Simple & Fuss-Free London Pub Wedding

Jodie and Anthony, both Aussies, met in London on a dating app. They chose the city that brought them together for their low key wedding, with the intimate ceremony with just 10 of their friends at The Old Marylebone Town Hall followed by an informal larger gathering at the Pub on the Park in Hackney.

“This was our kind of elopement, with our pals here in London”, Jodie explained. “We plan to have a second bigger bash a few years down the line with our friends and family back in Australia. We wanted this one to feel very London and to capture the vibe of the city we’d made home together and all the friendships we’d shared our London experience with. We loved the contrast of the old-English swank of the Marylebone ceremony followed by the belly-up at one of our usual East London pubs.”

Budget Friendly, Minimalist Wedding with Rose Gold, Plants & Pokemon!

James and Lillian first met as members of a body modification website. After three years of chatting on MSN messenger (how all the best relationships are formed, of course) they finally met in person and became a couple after attending the wedding of a mutual friend. Many years and two children later, they decided to get hitched themselves, wanting a very laid back, chilled vibe for their day that didn’t cost the earth.

With a £3,500 budget they kept things very minimalist, incorporating subtle nods to each other’s likes; namely plants for Lillian and Pokemon for James! Using rose gold as a colour scheme throughout tied everything together and kept things cohesive.

Colourful Vegas Wedding with a Chotronette Dress

Liam and Tara’s September wedding was inspired one thing; their journey together. Meeting at 17 and being each other’s first loves, they’ve had a rocky road to get to where they now are and so wanted to celebrate not only the things that they like together, but also as individuals. This translated as a fun, geeky mismatch of inspirations; comic books, unicorns, Disney, Alice in Wonderland… the list goes on!

With a £2,500 budget though, they didn’t focus on material things, instead ploughing their funds into creating experiences; booking to get wed in Vegas so they got a trip out of the day too, DIY-ing elements together in the run up and working together to make the experience fun for their guests as well as themselves. “It’s should be all about the marriage,” explained Tara, “and not just the one day – so we didn’t stress about the little things and just had fun with it!”

Big Love: An Ibizan Wedding in Norfolk with a Two Month Engagement!

Jonathan and Laura met by chance. When her friends birthday party gatecrashed another group’s table at the local pub, Laura ended up sitting opposite Jonathan and it was love at first sight! She packed up her life in Ibiza to be with him and the rest, they say, is history.

They were married exactly two months to the day after they got engaged, and amazingly, DIY’d almost every aspect. Laura is a milliner and Jonathan an illustrator, so they had creativity on their side! Their reception was held at the aforementioned pub – the Rumsey Wells in Norwich – which was extremely special for the couple to be able to celebrate their wedding in the place that they met. During the speeches they were literally pointing to the very spot they met and fell in love!

Colourful, Homely, Backyard Wedding

Nadine and Evy met each other five years ago and during a collaboration at work, a spark lit between them. At first they didn’t know what happened and what to do with these feelings for each other, as both of them never had feelings for another woman before. It was a delicate situation, but they said yes to the butterflies and they just went for it.

For their wedding day, they wanted for their guests to feel at home, welcome and relaxed. The held it in their own backyard – their ‘safe haven’ – in May 2019, and spent €6000 to make their daydreams a reality. They started collecting things, like trinkets and ornaments, a year in advance which not only helped spread the cost, but they really enjoyed keeping an eye out with their big day in mind. They filled the day with things they loved – from the rainbow confetti and pompoms their guests showered them with after they said their “I Dos”, to the kids’ face painting booth during the reception – every decision they made had to represent either of them in some way!
