A Silverstein sticker is what started Noel and Val’s relationship. They were working for the same company when Noel spotted the band’s logo on Val’s laptop and struck up a conversation. That small piece of emo memorabilia revealed a shared obsession with music, leading to gigs, festivals, record shopping and, eventually, a wedding designed like their own private festival.

“Our love for music has always been one of the strongest foundations of our relationship, so we knew we wanted it to be at the heart of our wedding”, Val told us. “Noel studied music in school and still loves creating and playing in his free time, while I’ve always been someone who connects deeply through music. Some of our favourite memories together are from concerts, music festivals, and meet-and-greets we’ve shared over the years. We wanted our wedding to reflect those experiences, so we incorporated music into every part of the day – from our ceremony and cocktail hour playlist to the décor and all the little personal details. If I had to describe our theme, I’d say it was simply ‘For the Love of Music’ Everything we chose was inspired by the soundtrack of our relationship.”

The ceremony music became one of the most personal projects of the day. Noel and Val share a love for the band Movements, particularly the album RUCKUS! Val wanted to enter to an instrumental version of Heaven Sent, while Noel chose Tightrope for the wedding party’s procession. “The second I heard the music start, I was instantly emotional”, Val said. “Knowing that Noel had spent so much time creating those songs just for our wedding made the moment even more meaningful.”

Cocktail hour, which they called their ‘Rock Tale Hour’, became a live history of their relationship. Every artist on the playlist was someone they had seen perform together, with a sign explaining the connection.

The styling of the day included music references throughout. Instruments appeared among the centrepieces as a reference to Noel’s background as a musician and the seating chart was made to resemble giant guitar picks.

Val loves coffee, so she wanted to find a way to bring that into the day too. Refill Coffee served drinks before the ceremony, giving guests a caffeine fix before proceedings began.

The drinks menu reflected their personalities, too. Their signature cocktails were recognisable as his and hers choices to anyone who knew them. Younger guests had their own mocktail called Wednesday, named after Noel and Val’s dog.

“A wedding isn’t one big event to plan, its about 100 tiny events happening at the same time. When you first start planning you think about the big stuff like the DJ and the venue. But then as the wedding gets closer you’re realising things like, ‘what size frame do I need for these signs?’ or ‘what can I take on the plane with me to this wedding and what can I DIY when I get to the destination?’”

For Noel and Val, seeing their families enjoy the day was the real share highlight. The details gave the wedding its identity, but the people are what made it truly memorable.
