There could not have been a more fitting setting for the wedding of author Daphne Woolsoncroft than at Carondelet House in Los Angeles, California. With its exposed brick walls, vintage chandeliers and candlelit interiors, it created the perfect warm, cosy backdrop for their intimate celebration. A direct descendant of literary icon Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, Daphne has continued her family’s storytelling legacy through her novels Night Watcher and The Season of Sinking. She also hosts the true crime podcast Going West with her now husband, Heath.

Rather than doing anything extravagant, the couple wanted a small celebration which focused on their around friends and family. Guests arrived to glasses of champagne while pianist Paulina Simkin, whose regular performances at Chateau Marmont have made her one of Los Angeles’ most sought-after musicians, played.

The main dining room was used as both the ceremony and dinner space. The ceremony was wonderfully uncomplicated and focused almost entirely on just the couple’s vows.

But one of the evening’s most memorable moments happened during the bouquet toss. Daphne’s cousin, actress Emma Roberts, caught the bouquet while celebrating alongside her then boyfriend Cody John. The pair announced their engagement not long afterwards and married this past weekend in Idaho. As you can probably imagine, it gave everyone yet another incredible memory from an already unforgettable day.

As the music continued and guests danced late into the evening, the celebration remained exactly what Daphne and Heath had envisioned from the start: intimate, joyful and revolving around the people they love the most. And for a descendant of Mary Shelley whose own novels continue that family tradition of captivating audiences, it felt like the perfect way for them to begin the next chapter of their lives.
