Bianka and Scott’s wedding skipped tradition and added trivia, pasta from a parmesan wheel, and their two huskies, proving that the best weddings are the ones that truly feel like you. Their only real goal was to have fun.

“We aren’t super traditional, and although our wedding played along with the formula of a ceremony and reception, once the reception started it was more just a big party and celebration of love”, the bride began. “We wanted plenty of colour and a laid back atmosphere where people could eat good food, dance and play some games.”

Guests ate from a buffet of pizza and pasta (served by the bride!), played Mario Kart, cornhole, giant Jenga and beer pong, and drew silly pictures for the couple to keep. “It was mostly drawings of dicks as you can imagine,” Bianka laughed, “but in the most fun and creative ways.” Trivia about the couple turned into a full-on competition, with their DJ stepping in as host. “Everyone got really into it. It was so much fun.”

Their two huskies were part of the ceremony. “That was a non-negotiable,” she said. “They’re a big part of our family.” One of them, Chief, created a memorable scene when he stood on Bianka’s veil while sniffing the nearby catering setup. “I was pretty trapped before Scott rescued me and got him back on his side. Everyone had a good laugh!”

The couple took DIY to another level, managing the entire setup and pack-down themselves. Bianka’s dad built all the arches and boxes used throughout the reception, and her friends helped her hand-paint them in bright checkerboard patterns. “We had so much fun getting together and doing it all. It’s actually one of my favourite wedding memories. I think our wedding would have been so boring if we didn’t have those details added. Maybe we didn’t save so much money in the end with a DIY venue, but this way we had total freedom for decorations to really be our style.”

When asked what she wished she’d known before planning, Bianka said although it was a lot of work, they now wouldn’t change anything. However if they’d had more to spend they might have splurged on e more flowers and a cocktail bar. “There are very few rules you have to follow. As long as you follow the small steps with vows, the world is your oyster. People will enjoy whatever you have planned as long as they share your excitement and joy.”

But mostly, she’s proud they built a wedding that felt authentic. “Take your time,” she concluded. “Think about how hands-on or hands-off you want to be when you choose your venue as that will really dictate how you spend the rest of your time.”
