One of my favourite ever movie weddings is the one in The Vow where Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum do a guerrilla, pop up ceremony in an art gallery and then get chased of of the place by security guards. This shoot reminds me of that (without the angry security guards thankfully!)

Photographer Kyra Boyer, who worked with florist Pomp and Splendour on this shoot, told us all about it. “Shooting on a moving, working tram in the middle of the city on a work day is so edgy and rock ‘n’ roll (maybe even a bit naughty?) We had a blast moving the florals on board, hopping on and off at various stops, getting ‘the shot’ in the midst of a wild ride, and putting a smile on the faces of other passengers! We wanted to help couples who feel stuck in the traditional venue idea – and show that your wedding can be anywhere! If you are a city slicker – shooting somewhere so quintessentially urban might be the perfect fit for you. After the ‘ceremony’ on the tram, we hopped off in a cool neighbourhood and went to a retro diner for cocktails and cake! It was extremely wholesome but also kind of badass.”

They were inspired 80s power suits for the styling. “We wanted long jackets, strong shoulders, bold lapels and an even bolder attitude”, she continued. ” The edginess of the suits guided the overall narrative of the shoot which was cool!”
They also thought way outside the box with the florals, including dynamic wearable florals for their models. One bride carried a luxurious wattle boa and also wore wattle earrings while the other wore a floral sleeve on her bare arm. They also had portable floral installations to style the tram and diner.

“Have fun, be yourself, trust your vendors”, Kyra concluded. “Tell your vendors what you love but also ask them if there are any ideas that excite them! They are artists who are often stuck creating similar pieces for every wedding. A styled shoot like this shows what is possible! For example, the wattle boa and neon power suits were just a passion project on the part of the vendors. We’d love to see more colour and bold choices at real life weddings!”
