Usually when we put together a shoot theme, we have a pretty clear idea of where it’s heading from the start. We’re inspired by a particular gown, a fashion trend, a film, a subculture or just a vibe we want to create. Gothic romance… city wedding… desert elopement. But this shoot was different.

We knew we wanted colour, but not in a bright, obvious, in-your-face way. We kept coming back to these washed-out tones that almost felt like neutrals. Butter yellow, pale lilac, faded blue, soft green… Colours that felt sun-bleached and understated. And the same time, we couldn’t shake the idea of incorporating newsprint.

Originally made iconic by John Galliano’s early 2000s collections for Christian Dior, newsprint suddenly feels relevant again. Between the return of Y2K fashion, the The Devil Wears Prada 2 and recent collections like Chanel Cruise 2027, it feels like the print has re-emerged after years in hibernation. Side note, somebody needs to make a full newsprint wedding gown happen immediately!

We collaborated with Photo Press who create custom wedding newspapers, to design a very Rock n Roll Bride-coded front page. Imagine picking this up as your daily paper instead of the doom-filled nonsense we’re usually handed!

Then came the idea of building an entire backdrop out of newspaper sheets, alongside all-white florals wrapped through with hints of print. That contrast became one of our favourite parts of the shoot because normally pastel gowns would be paired with matching-coloured flowers. Keeping the florals white made everything feel slightly unexpected and tied in with the tones of the newspapers perfectly.

We still can’t neatly summarise this shoot into one clean aesthetic category but we don’t think we want to. The best creative ideas and the best weddings rarely fit neatly into a box. They pull from different places, evolve as they grow and end up becoming something that feels entirely their own.
