Laura and Jordon married in the original marriage room at Gretna Green with 13 people present, including themselves. The day was intentionally small. The couple got ready together and walked from our hotel to the venue hand in hand. They also walked to the anvil together. “Jordon struggles with anxiety at times so being with me helped reduce a lot of nerves for him”, Laura wrote. “We also only had 13 people including ourselves at the wedding and then wedding meal with no big evening do. We wanted the wedding to reflect our love and not put on a show.”

They entered the ceremony to Dandelions (slow + reverb) by Ruth B. Their original plan had been to walk in to I Would by Lower Than Atlantis, but the venue could not find it on Spotify. The change ended up being perfect. Dandelions had been their planned first dance song when a bigger wedding was originally set to happen in Edinburgh.

Laura was also pregnant with their daughter which made simplicity feel even more important. “Getting pregnant meant that we had to bring forward our wedding”, Laura explained. “We were meant to be getting married next year in Edinburgh on Halloween but brought it forward and did something cheaper so we were able to save for the baby.”

Planning had its challenges, mainly letting go of the original vision. Laura had imagined wearing the Zelda skirt from Lucy Can’t Dance with one of their lace tops for the Edinburgh wedding. “I couldn’t justify it in my head for just a ceremony and a meal”, she said. “Having to change the wedding and bring it forward was a big challenge. But, in the end, we learned that bigger doesn’t always mean better. I don’t like how its normal to get yourself into debt to have ‘the dream wedding’. Most big weddings are all the same anyway.”

“Truly, just do what makes you happy”, she concluded. “The day is about you and your partner and you don’t need a big show to show your love and commitment to each other.”
