Although they didn’t want a themed wedding, Kate and Max were inspired by autumn, Halloween and their favourite movie, True Romance, for their October 2019 wedding. The timeline of their day was in reverse, and although this wasn’t what they initially wanted, it was a happy accident and in the end they were really pleased that they did it this way. Plus, it meant Kate was able to justify two wedding dresses!

She explains, “We left it quite late to book a registrar, so ended up having our celebration in a ‘reverse’ order to a traditional wedding. We had our wedding breakfast before our ceremony in the afternoon (the only time we could get a registrar for). Initially we were disappointed, but then realised at nearly every wedding we had ever been to, people were always starving hungry throughout the ceremony! So, it actually worked out really well.”

“It also gave me an excuse to buy two dresses! I wore my Rock n Roll Bride x Little Mistress dress for the wedding breakfast and got changed into my Maggie Sottero for the ceremony and I’m so glad I did this.” Her customised Converse and Not Yours Denim hand-painted jacket completed her look.

They didn’t go mad on the DIY but the maid of honour created the signage for the tables and they printed their own stationery (designed by Peach Wolfe Paper Co.) which saved them quite a bit of cash. They used tiny pumpkins as place cards and set up a ‘trick or treat’ table with sweets and popcorn. They also had additional set up help from their venue’s recommended décor stylist, Shindig Event Styling, who they said was a huge help.

“The only thing I’d change about the wedding would have been to have stressed less on the day and tried to be in the moment a little bit more”, Kate concluded, “It goes so quickly. Everything will not be perfect but you will still have the PERFECT day.”
