Hannah and Alex met at another wedding in Croatia. When it came to their own big day they wanted it to be kitsch, pseudo-Las Vegas, playful, fun and to stick to their £1000 budget! They were married in Blackpool and the day included candy floss, a fairy princess carriage, a drag queen named Crystal, games on the pier, a ride on a carousel and getting down and dirty to rave music at the waltzers!

“Hannah is from Blackpool and wanted her two grandmothers to play a big part in the wedding,” explained Alex. “So we changed our mind at the last minute and moved the whole thing up to Blackpool from London. It as the best decision we made and was great just to go with the flow!”

Their ceremony was quick and overlooked Blackpool tower. “Chantelle, our officiant, was lovely,” continued Hannah. “It was very quick with a fun view of Blackpool Tower. I laughed a lot, mostly out of nerves!”

The reception, which was their biggest expense, was held at The Grand Hotel and Hannah made all the table centrepieces herself. “They were made up of vintage photos of our parents and grandparents weddings”, she explained. “Family is so important and my favourite part of the wedding was having my Nana and Grandma there!”

“We spent the most money on the meal and reception at the Grand as we wanted to really treat our guests. However we saved money on my wedding dress which was just £90 from ASOS! I tried lots of others on but this was actually, genuinely my favourite.”

“The best thing about wedding planning was involving family and friends in our day”, she concluded. “The hardest part was deciding to move it all up north at the last minute but it ended up being the best thing we did. Our advice for future brides and grooms is don’t take the planning too seriously. Sometimes, the best things are the things you don’t expect!”
