Max and Kristen were married at the groom’s family home, followed by their reception at a local amusement park! “We have a love for 50s fashion and general art and design aesthetics”, said the bride. “Lakeside Amusement Park supplied an art deco flare and an offbeat reception venue that we had always dreamed of having as a backdrop to our celebration.”

Their ceremony was in the back garden and it rained! “It started raining the exact moment that I stepped foot outside the house for my procession and it stopped right as the ceremony ended”, she laughed. They say that’s good luck, though! Since neither of us are religious, we wanted the ceremony to be focused on personal stories, readings from literature and poetry that have meaning to us, and friends.”

“Our officiant was one of our mutual best friends who we worked with to craft our individual vows and the flow of the ceremony. We had a friend and family member recite two readings. The first was an excerpt from the E.M. Forster novel, Maurice; the second was the Billy Collins poem Today. When we exchanged rings we recited phrases that Kristen’s grandma had taught her as a child: ‘I love you deeper than the ocean’ and ‘I love you higher than the sky’.”

The couple really wanted the whole evening to feel like a casual summer party. “The reception in particular was one thing that we felt we could break away from the traditional dinner and dancing by offering our guests a unique experience at the amusement park. It’s one of Denver’s historical gems.”

“Our budget was $15,000 and our biggest expense was the photographer. It was our top priority and once we saw Ali’s work we knew we wanted her to be the one to capture one of the most important days of our life. We saved money on the venues by doing something different.”
