30 Unique Wedding Dresses You Won’t Believe Are Under £500

30 wedding dresses under £500

One of the questions I get asked a lot by readers is where to find alternative and/ or affordable wedding dresses. While I’m always thrilled to recommend my favourite independent designers, I’m also aware than splashing upwards of £1000 on a gown is out of the questions for many of you.

So I hit the interwebs in search of some of the most beautiful and affordable wedding appropriate gowns, all of which I’m thrilled to report come in at under £500 a pop! Anyone that says the Great British high street isn’t the best in the world is grossly misinformed.

Are you buying your wedding dress from the high street?

  1. Carol

Check out bridesmaids dresses. I found a style a liked, had it made in pale gold and it made the most brilliant bridal dress for a fraction of the price.

  2. Thanks for creating a fantastic selection of beautiful
dresses, love the uniqueness of each dress & the
prices are amazing! I always wanted a wedding dress that looks a little bit different so I’ll be checking out the suppliers for these gorgeous dresses, the great thing about not having to spend too much on the dress itself is then having a little bit more for extra beautiful shoes & accessories! Yay!

  3. Laura Redhead

What an amazing post. Gorgeous choices. It’s such a shame though, that designers don’t create dresses with more long sleeves.

  4. zoe

I just got my dress from coast, it is such a beautiful fit and the quality is amazing. It was the “kate” dress, can’t wait to wear it this time next week

I tried on number 28 for the ‘evening’ dress after I got married – we eloped to Canada and I thought it’d be a bit much to wear the big dress in a random restaurant in the evening. It was gorgeous and I’d definitely recommend it. The only reason I didn’t buy was the one in my size in the shop had sequins dropping off it left right and centre, shame!
Also, saw this dress in M&S yesterday and thought how it would make a lovely wedding dress, at a mere £149. With a few embellishments, like a sequin or beaded belt it would be so nice! The fabric was beautiful. http://www.marksandspencer.com/speziale-pure-silk-fern-embroidered-bodice-maxi-dress/p/p60061668

  6. What a gorgeous selection, this should be essential reading for all brides to be. I was totally deflated by the whole wedding dress shopping experience but number 28 makes me want to do it all over again.

I got my lovely silver Greta Hollywood dress from Ghost through TK Maxx! It cost about £60 and I will be customising it to make it my own. I just couldn’t spend over £1000 on a dress I would wear once. This one might even get another wear or two after the big day!!

  8. Joanna

I just got married last week in Las Vegas, and I wore a white lace daisy print swing dress from ASOS, it was £18 and teamed with a vintage lace shrug it made me feel amazing. All the sweeter for knowing that I didn’t blow our savings for the future on it!

  9. Christina

Brilliant article. I always think there are far more beautiful, different dresses in normal shops than in wedding dress shops. Great to see this selection brought together. Thanks Kat

House of Fraser have a great wedding dress collection and I got mine for less than £300, I then paid about £40 to get it fitted; certainly would recommend bride-to-be’s to look around the high street before automatically forking out over a grand

  11. Thank you for your post. The bride dresses are very nice and i like it. I think the price is also very reasonable, i want to have it.

  12. I really want to say thank you for this post!

We’ve been putting things off and off and off, just because we don’t want the hassle or the cost of ‘normality’. This has made things sooo much easier! Dress shopping on the high street can be done it seems – and with alternative choices!

    Cheers Kat

Great list! I was shocked at the cost when I went wedding dress shopping first. I just couldn’t spend all that money on a dress I’d only wear once. Luckily I didn’t want to wear a ‘bridal’ dress so I bought the gold Luna dress on your list from Phase eight. It’s so gorgeous. Can’t wait to wear it 🙂
