Adrienne & Nic’s retro wedding was held at
Greystone Hall, Ohio “My Mom and I wanted to have the wedding and reception all in one place for convenience’s sake,” the bride told me. “I wanted to have the wedding in downtown Akron for nostalgia’s sake. The building is historic and very important to the city, plus they have great food! Nic and I loved the subtle eerie goth vibe from the preserved masonic imagery.”
Adrienne wore a antique dress which she’d owned even before she met Nic, and a vintage hat which her grandmother wore at her own wedding in 1946. “I saw the dress in an antique store in NYC years ago, way before I met Nic. My Mom came to visit and I took her to the store to show her how great this dress was. They were trying to sell it to me for more than 50% off, but still too expensive for me, especially since I had no where to wear it. So we left the store satisfied knowing that we had seen the most beautiful dress in the world. A few months later it was Christmas. I opened a gift from my Mom and there was the dress! She called the antique store and bought it over the phone. One of my friends, and later bridesmaid, Kim smuggled it home over Thanksgiving. When I opened it on Christmas I announced that I would get married in it. I still hadn’t met Nic.”
As their venue was so beautiful on it’s own, the couple only had to do a few things to dress it up. They spray painted various figurines which they’d picked up at thrift stores and gathered from friend’s homes to use on the tables. Adrienne’s Father designed and made the metal flower stands to hold the larger balls of green flowers. For their guest book they asked people to write them notes on various pieces of paper which they now plan to bind within the pages of their wedding photo album.
Thank you so much to Adrienne & Nic and Carina & Amanda of Love Me Do Photography for sharing this beautiful wedding with us today.

Retro Cartoon Wedding: Daisy & Leigh
Tux and Tales
August 20, 2013
Daisy and Leigh's retro wedding themed came about because they knew they wanted anything but a traditional day. "We decided to go down the retro/ vintage theme, but I also didn't want it to be the typical ‘vintage’ wedding style that is everywhere at the moment!" Daisy wrote. "I also didn't want a traditional sit-down meal so we had afternoon tea complete with cocktails served in teapots. The wedding eventually became about all of the things we love from the 1950s to the 1990s! I wanted our wedding to be really unpretentious and for everyone to have lots of fun."
Retro Kitsch British Wedding: Lynne & Stevie
November 23, 2012
We may be well on our way towards the depths of winter (waah!) but I thought I'd just cling onto those hazy Summer days for just a little while longer by sharing Lynne & Stevie's June wedding. The quintessentially British vibe perfectly accompanied by vintage and retro touches was just too good to pass up.
Retro Bowling Club Wedding with an Ocean View: Nat & Sam
November 30, 2012
The retro wedding of Nat & Sam is perfect... literally perfect. I just know you're going to go nuts for Nat's nostalgic bridal style, their ocean view ceremony and the reception that looks like it stepped right out of the past.
"Our ceremony was at Burrows Park Headland, Sydney", explained Nat. "The ceremony spot was a beautiful cliff edge looking over the Pacific Ocean and located right next to the Bowling Club where we had the reception. We loved that the only way to get to it was via a very long, natural aisle sheltered on one side by trees, which we decorated with Chinese lanterns. For our reception we chose Clovelly Bowling Club. It was cheap as chips to hire, the drinks prices stuck in the 1980s, and the tacky bright blue carpet and a strange old picture of the Queen flanked by two Aussie flags above a stage which houses an ancient piano (which we tuned up and used!) were AWESOME! As soon as we walked in we looked at each other and said 'Yes!'. Oh, and it had 180 degree ocean views!"
Junk and Glitter Themed Farm Wedding: Ellie & Ed
September 6, 2013
Ellie and Ed wanted their June wedding to not only reflect them - their likes and loves - but to be a fun day for everyone, full of DIY details. The day started with an emotional ceremony at Aldenham School, Elstree and the reception was in tipis on Buckettsland Farm, Well End. "We said the whole way through the planning process that we didn't have a theme but looking back it was essentially junk and glitter", began the bride. "If you ever saw our flat, you would know that we’re not matchy-matchy people in the slightest. I love tack and have a big collection of oddities, plus I have an obsession with the stars and the moon and anything glittery, so I always knew they would end up making an appearance."
Glamorous Vintage Wedding: Cecilia & Stuart
May 15, 2014
Cecilia and Stuart's Glasgow wedding was pure vintage glamour - with a big dollop of pin up rockabilly cool thrown in for good measure! The couple were married at St Patricks church and their reception was held at Sloans, Gasgow's oldest bar and restaurant.
A Retro Americana Wedding: Ralph & Carly
August 22, 2012
Ralph & Carly love all things Americana and retro and so the theme for their wedding was easy to decide on. They wanted to incorporate the feeling of driving through America in an open top car - something they love to do in real life. Ralph had even proposed on a road trip through Arizona, one of their favourite places in the USA. "We love Americana and we feel that there is a big difference between what is retro and what is vintage", Carly explained. "We wanted our wedding to be all things that we love. We love nothing more than booking a flight and a car in the US and then exploring, although sometimes we end up in very peculiar places and cannot wait for daylight to arrive so that we can head out! For the most part though it's the way that we have discovered some of our favourite places. Each table was named after a hotel or motel that we have stayed in on our trips, there have been many others but these had the coolest signs."
Hairspray and 1960s Inspired Retro Wedding: Louise & Pete
This Modern Love
August 1, 2013
Louise and Pete's Belfast manor house wedding was full to bursting with cute, quirky and retro DIY details. The bride wore a polka dot Candy Anthony wedding dress and looked every but the mid-century starlet with her beehive hair do and classically gorgeous make up. "We definitely had a retro themed wedding", Louise explained. "I took inspiration from Hairspray (especially when it came to my hair!) and had a pink polka dot 50s style dress. Pete had a teddy boy-esque suit. We played 60s garage songs during the drinks reception and 60s girl groups afterwards. We asked all our male guests to wear bow ties, which they did, including my 5 month old nephew!"
