There are wedding flowers, and then there are enormous pink flowers with candy-striped centres, acid-green stems and waterfalls of iridescent tinsel. Muse and Tre, who married at The British Club in Bangkok, chose the second option.

They worked with Also Known As Studio who transforming the venue’s gardens and sports court into a colourful world inspired by childhood. Their décor team described the theme as “Childhood Whimsical Fantasy”, using playful materials, exaggerated proportions and unexpected colour combinations to give each part of the venue its own identity.

The ceremony space was wrapped in yellow and lilac fabric, with lengths of purple draping swooping across the ceiling and silver streamers catching the light. Rows of simple wooden chairs kept the focus on the installation overhead, while small bunches of flowers and ribbons marked the aisle. Even the blue lines of the sports court became part of the setting, adding another block of colour rather than being disguised.

Elsewhere, a walkway was turned into a blue and yellow tunnel filled with hydrangeas, roses and long cream tassels. The dense flowers and hanging textures created the feeling of walking into another world, which feels appropriate for a wedding influenced by the strange logic of childhood imagination.

The couple and their décor team weren’t interested in following the usual rules about which colours supposedly belong together. Cobalt blue sat beside butter yellow. Lilac fabric met silver fringe. Red tablecloths were covered with orange glassware, silver and rainbow-sprayed anthurium flowers and asymmetric arrangements in mismatched vessels. They even incorporated rainbow coloured Slinkies into the centrepieces. Fruit was piled directly onto other tables, combining lemons, mandarins, apples and grapes with flowers in yellow, purple and blue.

The result was a maximalist dream. The largest installation stood outside The British Club’s main building. Giant sculptural flowers, surrounded by red-and-white striped forms and curtains of holographic fringe. It looked a bit like a sweet shop, an alien garden and a toy box emptied onto the lawn.

Muse wore two white looks by A-List & More. One combined an off-the-shoulder corseted bodice with a lace skirt and long train, the second was a strapless ballgown with a full pleated skirt and sheer opera gloves. Her bouquet brought the wider palette into the outfit through blue orchids and anthuriums, orange flowers and flashes of metallic silver.

Planning such a visually ambitious wedding required weeks of brainstorming, venue visits and experiments with unfamiliar materials. That process became the décor team’s favourite part of the project. Their advice for anyone planning something unconventional is simple: be brave enough to pursue the full version of the idea.
