Dramatic Autumnal Wedding in Italy

As wedding photographers themselves, Davide and Rebecca knew what we were getting into when they began planning their autumnal October wedding in Italy. With the help of their wedding planner, Annalisa from Miai Events Planner, they full leaned into the season with a theme they called “dramatic autumn.” It was built around their love for autumn and everything it represents.

They had planned for an outdoor ceremony, but the rain moved it indoors. In hindsight, they were glad. The ceremony took place by a lit fireplace inside the castle. Pumpkins lined the aisle. The room was dim and warm, enclosed by stone and candlelight. Rebecca walked in to the theme from Gladiator, her father’s favourite film. “He is seriously ill,” Davide shared, “so it felt important that he could connect with that moment.” They exchanged handwritten vows. Afterwards, they carved a pumpkin together instead of signing a register.

Rebecca wore no veil, just black shoes and deep red nails. The colour palette, like the rest of the wedding, rejected tradition. “The entire concept of our wedding was already quite alternative and far from the traditional white,” Davide explained. They made clear choices to avoid elements that didn’t resonate. The decisions weren’t about rebellion or being unconventional for its own sake, they were about honesty.

At the reception, guests found their tables marked not by numbers but by 3D-printed woodland animals such as foxes, owls, and squirrels. The couple’s table was named after their dachshund, Dante. They also had a gin station, stocked with their own recipe cards and illustrated instructions so guests could mix drinks the way Davide and Rebecca liked them.

“The room was exactly how we imagined it,” Davide said. “Dark yet elegant, warm autumn colours, candles, flowers… just wonderful. One of our absolute favourite moments was when we entered the dining room – it was stunning!”

When asked what advice he’d give to other couples, Davide concluded, “Do what feels right for you – don’t change who you are just for one day. And get a wedding planner! Annalisa helped us optimise every part of the budget. That it takes a lot of time, and that the creation of a wedding is something deeply personal. All of our vendors were amazing and we thank them for understanding our vision and not only respecting it, but also supporting it.”
