Mike and Bug didn’t have a specific theme for their wedding but it turned into a bit of a magical woodsy fairytale scene! “I love the outdoors, succulents, DIY and crafts”, said the bride. “I love the style our venue, The Garden Cafe and the wedding planner there added the plants and colours I wanted to the space. She masterminded the whole gorgeous space.”

“My awesome maid of honour bought biodegradable balloons shaped like white doves and filled them with helium and handed them out to the children at the ceremony who then released them as we kissed. She also bought biodegradable paper lanterns, the kind that float away, and it was the most beautiful moment I’ve ever been part of, watching everyone I love in this world gathered together sending off these beautiful lanterns into the night sky.”

“In terms of DIY, the things we made ourselves were I the cake toppers (by my MOH), she also etched a wooden picture frame with our names and wedding date. I crocheted each of the scarves/shawls that my bridesmaids wore. Also for bridesmaids gifts, I made paper baskets and stuffed them full of Carolina goodies, since all my bridesmaids were from outside of the Carolinas. My mother (a fantastically talented charcoal artist) drew a beautiful tree thumbprint-style guest book for the guests to stamp their thumbprint on the branches as ‘leaves’ and sign their names.”

There was no traditional white for this bride, she wore an incredible purple dress! “My dress was purchased from Sunna Bridal on Etsy. My shoes were white sparkly heeled sandals from Blue by Betsey Johnson, and the flowers in my hair were handmade with bobby pins and plastic succulents by me and my bridesmaids. My veil was my ‘something borrowed’.”

“My favourite part of the wedding was that I married my dreamy man and was surrounded by all people I love”, she continued. “The entire day was my favourite, it was by turns magical, and ridiculously hilarious! I would tell other brides not to stress, especially over small stuff, and don’t ever lose sight of the point of all of it. When you think about it, you get to marry the person you love most in this world and you don’t want waste time focusing on trivial things.”
