Thursday Treats: #IOWWANKERS

October 23, 2014

IOW Groups-3

Last weekend I packed up my hot pink suitcase, hopped in the car with Ronnie and Craig and drove down to Southampton to get the Ferry to the Isle of Wight! Alongside Sophie and Gareth (my Gareth was at home on kitty watch/ a DIY mission) we spent the weekend in The Scout Hall, an amazing converted – you guessed it – scout hut, pretty much in the middle of nowhere! It. Was. Amazing.

Oh and in case you’re wondering, #IOWWANKERS was our truly hilarious Instagram hashtag for the weekend. Aren’t we a hoot!?

I’ve never been to the Isle of Wight before, but we picked it for a little getaway because we wanted somewhere remote, and completely away from our everyday lives. Some of you might remember that our beautiful friend Jo passed away last February, and as awful as that was, the whole situation really shook us into action and made it realise how important it is to make time for your friends. Even when everyone is stupidly busy, it’s so vital. In fact I think it’s more crucial to do it when you’re busy. It can be so easy to assume that everyone knows how much you care about them, but unless you show and tell them, they might not.

So we did just that. We played board games, watched all three Back to the Future movies (my idea of heaven!), drank wine, cried a little, laughed a lot, took photos of the sunset, went for 2am walks in the pitch black, meandered down the beach and played mini golf on Sandown Pier. It was the perfect weekend away. So perfect in fact that I didn’t turn my laptop on once!!

I also made a little video. It’s silly and pointless, but I love it.

Today, I’d love to encourage you to plan that trip with your friends. The one you’ve been talking about for ages but have never found the time for. There is always time. Even if it’s just one night, one afternoon, one hour… please, make the time for your friends.
