As a gay, non-gender conforming couple, tradition wasn’t something AJ and Ryan felt obligated to follow. That freedom shaped every part of their day into something intimate and imaginative. "We had no expectations on us so we could make it our own, start our own traditions", they wrote. "We skipped pretty much all of the normal wedding traditions bar not seeing each other the night before the wedding. We kept that one for the excitement and to give each other space to decompress after the hectic build up."Read more...

Kath didn’t want to be “given away.” Dave didn’t want to be the centre of attention. Neither of them wanted cookie-cutter vows or a rigid itinerary. What they did want was a day filled with meaning, stitched together with felt ornaments, vintage treasures, and just enough glitter to cause some mild chaos.Read more...

When Alice and Amy envisioned their wedding day, they knew it wouldn’t fit neatly into tradition’s rigid mold. "Alternative, but also personal. So much of the wedding industry isn't designed with couples like us in mind."Read more...

With a theme of red string, and a nod to Corpse Bride, Anna and Dani's day felt more like a gathering of artists, misfits and rebels than a wedding. Anna told us, "We spoke about getting married for the first time while we were in Morocco last year. As we were finishing, we were playing with the red wires holding the bags of flatbreads together, bent them into rings, and went on to wear them for weeks until they broke. They would be replaced with red string, and later, red line tattoos. We later found out about the red string of fate story which says you have a string running from your heart, out of your finger, connecting you to your soulmate."Read more...

Evie and Mac focused on creating a day that reflected their shared love of paganism, nature, and community.
