This past couple of months I’ve been obsessing over print media. No change there really, but when a reader contacted me to say she’d found a stack of wedding magazines from the 1970s in her mum’s house and asked if I’d like them, my answer was an immediate yes.
I posted about them on Instagram, even wrote an article for the website about my thoughts on them, and then went well and truly down the Vinted rabbit hole, picking up more wedding magazines from the 60s to the 80s.
Although I loved looking at the fashion, the adverts and the questionable answers on the problem pages, the real joy for me was their permanence. These magazines have become an accidental archive of hundreds of trends, products and small independent companies that were part of someone’s wedding world more than 50 years ago. Isn’t that incredible?
And serendipitously, this was also the inspiration behind this issue’s cover shoot, even though I planned it long before the vintage magazine obsession began. I wanted to bring in the idea of physical media through custom newspapers, paparazzi-style shots and newsprint details.
The digital era is fabulous, but it’s also overwhelming. There’s too much access, too much AI and too much doomscrolling. Print and physical media will forever have my heart, even if that makes me a dinosaur. While many print magazines were closing or moving to digital-only formats, I went in the opposite direction and launched this magazine. Here we are, one of the only ones left and still going strong.
