Steampunk Victorian Beach on a Budget

Kat

September 13, 2009

If you want to see some of the most beautiful floral details and centrepieces ever plus some pretty damn stunning beach portraits then you've certainly come to the right place! Meghann & Edwin planned their Steampunk-Victorian-Beach-on a budget wedding with help from all their friends and family - DIY was the name of the game! I am totally in love with all their decor ideas and the beautiful floral details - this wedding proves that you can make anything look bloody amazing if you have the time and patience to do it yourself. They spent only about $200 on flowers and decor and went to The LA Flower Market the day before to get the blooms. Meghann explained:

Red Shoes & Snakeskin Boots

Kat

September 11, 2009

I have featured the work of Marina from Red Heart Photography a number of times recently, every time she sends me something I am stopped in my tracks! Christina & Justin had a personal ceremony in Kona (it was just the two of them - you can't get more intimate that that!) and then followed it up with an amazing photo session with the lovely Marina. She wore amazing red shoes. He wore kick ass snakeskin boots. I looked at these and melted. Marina I heart you..thanks for the sharing! Credit: Red Heart Photography

Tequila In Hawaii

Kat

September 4, 2009

Husband and wife team James & Bev just sent me these stunning Kikaua Point Beach wedding from May this year. I actually spotted some of these images on one of my many hunts for damn cool weddings and in fact begged them to send me the images of Amanda & Rob's big day. Me? play it cool?...certainly not! The couple had a Don Julio Tequila toast right after they said 'I do' (now I don't really know what this is, but I can only imagine it involved Tequila shots after the vows!) and Amanda wore are beautiful traditional Hawaiian dress called a mu'umu'u as her wedding gown and quite frankly looked stunning. A huge thanks to Bev & James for sending me these and letting me share this stunning wedding with you all! Credit: James Rubio Photography

The Last Days Of Summer

Kat

August 29, 2009

As much as we hate to admit it, summer is coming to an end. When we hit September and the kids go back to school that's pretty much it right? Hell I had to write an article for a magazine (hehe shameless self promotion to follow soon!) about winter weddings last week for crying out loud! However with the nights drawing in, we can't deny that the light gets that little bit more beautiful and the evenings become that little bit more comfortable - so comfortable in fact that Rachel & Nate felt the need for a pillow fight! You gotta love these...

Anniversary Love

Kat

August 28, 2009

As photographers, Emmy & Aaron are more comfortable being behind the camera then in front, but for their one year anniversary (this week!) they decided they deserved some gorgeous photographs of their own! Emmy told me the whole story: When we took a little anniversary trip to a cabin on Cowichan Lake (Vancouver Island BC Canada) I pulled my dress, by Demetrios, out of the closet and took it with us. We had a great little cabin on the beach and there were some other perfectly decayed old buildings on the property including this great lime green shed. The owner expressed some concern that we were making photos in front of "the biggest eyesore on the property". I think that old shed is perfect!. We met over a conversation about our shared love of photography. Pretty soon we also loved each other and now we love making photographs together. We can't believe how lucky we are that we found each other and that we both have the same passion. I don't let him shoot me that often - I like being behind the camera as much as he does - but putting that dress on tends to let you become somebody else for a while. Doesn't hurt that its my hot hubby behind the camera! Everyone should do this on their anniversary – let those dresses out of the closet girls you look fabulous in them and they want to be seen! You don't have to be a photographer just head out and have some fun! I LOVE my dress and it was soooo much fun wearing it again!! Credit: E/A Photography

Sunset Love Story

Kat

August 24, 2009

I really need to be lying down with some honey and lemon and watching trash on tv as I'm sick...grr I don't do well when I get ill - boredom is not my Forté. I just had to drop by and share a few little images from this Russian engagement session entitled 'Sunset Love Story.' Totally beautiful huh? It's hard to choose, but I think the 'red heart lollypop' one has got to be my favourite. Too gorgeous! The photographer, Mukhina Ekaterina, will actually be touring the states in October/November of this year and would love to meet and photograph some rock n roll couples. Drop her an email if you're game! Until tomorrow, when I hope to be feeling less vile and able to share all the amazing weddings I've been sent over the weekend (I swear...they are all amazing!) Anything Goes

Kat

August 9, 2009

Kim & Christian's wedding certainly didn't fit any kind of traditional mould. The bride wore two stunning dresses, the red one for the ceremony and the gorgeous green 'princess dress' for the reception, where they danced and hula hooped on the beach into the wee hours of the morning. Kim's bridesmaids wore dresses that she'd made especially for them and stunning custom hairpieces from Etsy. The handmade invitations and wooden flower bouquet also really added to the uniqueness of this wedding. You're going to love these. Thank you so much to Kristen of LanierStar Photography for sending them my way! Credit: LanierStar Photography

An Inspired Choice

Kat

June 29, 2009

Photographers Craig & Chanelle Segerius-Bruce met Andy & Kim way back in 2007 in South Africa, when they (the photographers) were on their own honeymoon. The wedding took place at Parley Manor in Dorset and Kim wore a Benjamin Roberts dress. My favourite of all these images, has to be the Jeff Newsom-inspired swirly light shot..mean, moody and very very cool. I am doing a photo shoot with Chanelle soon..I am very excited about it as the concept we have come up with is quite different to what you might be seeing everywhere else right now...hint: I'm getting all crafty with black tulle!

Swimming, Jumping, Trashing

Kat

June 17, 2009

Proper trash the dress still kinda scares me. Don't get me wrong I love the results but I'd still be so scared of getting into a lake in my dress! Newlywed Michelle has allayed my fears a little bit, you never know, maybe I would get into a lake in my dress! We did it next to and under a road near my house and finished off with me getting in the lake down the street just as the sun was setting over the mountains. It was pretty much the most fun thing I have ever done and I wish I could trash my dress every day! (I actually could do it again because I washed it in the bathtub, picked the lake weeds out of the skirt, and it ended up being as good as new!)

Susan and Scheffer Ely’s Camp-Out Rock Star Fest!

Kat

June 11, 2009

Susan and Scheffer Ely (they already sound like rock stars!) got married at a property outside of the town of Mariposa (which is on the way to Yosemite). The couple did tons of work on the property and totally DIY’ed the lot. They did all of the adorable flowers in the trees, made the chandeliers over the dining area out of Manzanita branches and they even constructed a flame burning giant flower sculptures that decorated the pool area! They also had a self-portrait photo area where guests could dress up in costumes and take their photo.
