Tessa & Keith’s Neo Victorian Wedding

Tessa & Keith are a little bit fabulous no? In fact any bride that wears a blue dress is all right in my book! “My inspiration came from our artistic backgrounds and aesthetic preferences”, the bride told me. “I am a crafter and burlesque performer. Keith is a visual artist. Together, we both had very strong opinions about how the wedding should look and feel. We settled on a neo-Victorian theme because of its elegance and refinement. I chose to wear blue instead of white because I wanted to be able to reuse my outfit, and I wanted a corset and a skirt instead of a dress because it was more versatile. The shade of blue we chose also suited the matron of honour and best woman well!”

“Our wedding party was intentionally kept very small so that we would not feel stressed about coordinating a lot of people on the big day. The preparation was extremely low key and relaxing. I would not have done it differently.”

The gorgeous blue dress is question was custom made by Morúa Designs in London (corset) and Recollections (bustle). With this Tessa wore shoes by Bordello to which she added Swaorvski crystals herself.

Adrianna & Tim’s Victorian Steampunk Wedding

Adrianna & Tim’s wedding was inspired by the Victorian era. The wedding took place at Woman’s Club of Evanston in Evanston, IL and the bride and groom wore custom outfits to fit the theme of their day.

The couple made their own centrepieces and created the artwork for the tables. “This was a very Do-It-Yourself type of wedding so a lot of things we either made or found ourselves,” explained the groom. “We got lucky with a few of the men’s suits by finding a formal wear store that was going out of business that had some older grey cutaway tuxedos that they were trying to get rid of.”

“Our family helped us in making the flags, we designed and painted the centerpieces which were actually science gear from American Science and surplus, created the flower arrangements and decorated the hall ourselves. Luckily the Women’s club was a nearly perfect setting without any decorating so we didn’t have to do much to get it perfect.”

A short and sweet post to start today off, but I think you’ll agree this wedding was worth a feature for the images alone. Aren’t they fabulous? I just love how the style of photography matches the Victorian theme of the day!

Victorian Sci Fi & Steampunk Love

Following on from yesterday’s Steampunk-esque wedding, I wanted to share another – and this time, an all out authentically styled Victoriana wedding fest!

Stacy & Eric got married in April and had one of the most incredible weddings fitting this theme that I have ever seen! The whole wedding was filled with circles – from old type writers, clocks and top hats to that truly incredible (and fully edible!) cake (made by Let Them Eat Cake in California – seriously go check out their website, they have cakes and designs like you’ve never seen before!) You are going to go nuts for these details – I am loving the typewriter/flower combo. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen. The centrepieces consisted of flowers, old books books, typewriters, gears, light bulbs, test tubes and had a real authentic Steampunk vibe. Stacey collected all the props throughout their planning and then gave them to florist Debbie Fields who put everything together on the day. The place names, which were made of old-looking train tickets (found at a craft store) had individual keys stuck to them that with significant words on them like ‘life’ and ‘dreams’. The keys and gears on the place cards were found at a local craft store-they come from a scrapbook line by a guy named Tim Holtz (you can buy everything though his online store too – bonus!)

Eric shared their thoughts and inspiration behind their wedding with me. “Both of us love history and are fascinated with the Victorian time period. We’re also both fans of Sci-fi/fantasy fiction, so that’s how our theme came about.  Steampunk has it’s roots in Victorian Sci-Fi (Jules Verne, H.G. Wells), but has taken off in the last few years into an aesthetic all it’s own.  We wanted something a little irreverent while still being classy, so it fit very well.  And it gave our guests a chance to have fun with their outfits! ”

Be sure to check out the full vendor list after the ‘jump’

ps I just can’t get over this cake…wow. How is this even possible?!

Victorian Steampunk & Fancy Dress Fun

Caroline & Connor’s wedding had a distinctly Victorian/Steampunk vibe. As well as the bridal party, all the guests really got into the spirit and dressed up for the occasion in vintage dresses and attire which was practically all put together by the amazing Trish Roush at House of Nines Design. Not only did she help out the guests with their outfits, but she dressed the bride and groom – including making those incredible hats (plus, I just have to add, how incredible is Connor’s moustache?!)

Pretty much everything about this wedding was unique and found at random vintage/thrift stores. The bride found her dress online (purchased from an independent seller not from a store I’m afraid) which was no mean feat as most genuine vintage dresses are teeny tiny! However with some clever corsetry Caroline looked every bit the Victorian princess.

Purple Rain

Featuring UK weddings makes me happy. Not only because I know being a British blogger makes me stand out from the crowd, but because it makes me so happy that us Brits are finally catching up to our American friends in the style stakes! Therefore to celebrate I’m going to blog not one, but two awesome UK weddings today (and a little bit of California dreamin’ at the end of the day – sorry I can’t resist it.)

I’m kicking off with a wedding that’s not only fabulously unique but the bride is in a purple dress! It was actually an Alfred Angelo bridesmaid dress but certainly did the job as a glamorous and unique bridal outfit.
