Nostalgic Romance & Travel Themed Wedding

Nostalgic romance and journey wedding (28)

With just a few guests and $7000 to spend, Joanne and Paul planned their travel themed wedding at Wakarusa Historical Museum. “The inspiration for our wedding was ‘love is a journey’ and nostalgia”, said the bride. “We both love to travel, hence the train station location. Our unique flowers were made of old maps and we had suitcases and atlas jars with candles. We also had lots of globes and vintage cameras. We were married in the waiting room of the train station.”

“All the décor was DIY and we planned the whole thing ourselves. My favourite part of our wedding was our handwritten vows where we both expressed that we not only married one another, but our children too. We are a blended family of one another and three children total.”

Travel and Art Deco Themed Wedding

Daniel and Keely had lots of different influences for their October wedding. From the bride’s love of jewel tones – reflected in her dress and make up and the bridesmaid outfits, to their mutual love of travel. They even had art deco references in their stationery. It sounds like it shouldn’t work, but it totally does because it was a real reflection of them.

“The inspiration for our wedding was definitely ‘fun’”, said the bride. “We put a lot of effort into making sure that everyone had as much fun as possible. In fact, most of our decisions were made with our guests in mind. We had the ceremony and reception at the same location so that guests didn’t have to drive to another venue and could have a drink or two at the ceremony. We also did our photos beforehand so that our guests didn’t have a big boring break between ceremony and reception. This also meant we got to spend a lot more time with our guests.”

“We organised lawn games for guests”, she continued. “We had archery (which was a huge hit!), badminton, croquet, boccie and giant Jenga (we made it ourselves and painted it in the colours of the wedding). It was great fun for everyone, and we were so happy to have a venue that was really creative and accommodating. They put in so much work to make sure our ideas could be made real and we really wouldn’t have been able to have the wedding we wanted without a unique venue like The Hideaway Retreat.”

Travel Themed Wedding Italy: Ale & Bauz

Ale and Bauz love to travel, so when it came to getting hitched coming up with a theme was easy. They were married in July in Verona, Italy. “Our love story started with a first kiss during the White Night (an all-night arts festival) in Verona”, wrote the bride. “Verona is our hometown but Bauz lived in Spain and he was just back in Italy for work. We had a long distance relationship for two years. After many letters, phone calls and flights, we finally decided to move in together. We lived in Milan for three years and now we live in Madrid. However we knew we wanted to go back to Verona to get married.”

“The theme for our wedding was born spontaneously: all the travel we had to do when we first got together!” she continued. “Travel is also a common passion that always played an important role in our lives. Also, the marriage proposal came during one of our trips, on a beach in Cuba. Because we don’t live in Verona we also planned the wedding from afar. There was a lot of travel involved there too! Having a cohesive theme helped us to create an harmonic event and simplify the decision-making process.”
