Emilia & Ville’s Vintage, Rockabilly & Pyschobilly Engagement

Australian photographer Gemma Clarke was lucky enough to find Emilia & Ville who wanted a retro/vintage style engagement shoot in Helsinki, Finland this July. The train yards in Pasila played host to their fabulous fashion-led shoot and the couple were really involved in the concept and styling of the whole thing.

“For the clothing, Emilia is really into 50’s style with style of rockabilly and psychobilly, but she also gets really inspired of styles from 20’s-40’s,” the couple explained. “She can’t think anything more nicer than going out and get properly dressed up! Emilia has lots of different high heels, dresses, hats and cloves. She loves the contrast between style of a lady from the 50’s with big tattoos and stretched ears. Ville’s style is bit more rock ‘n roll with heavy metal. He used to wear only band t-shirts and jeans, until Emilia told him that just with a small effort he could look so much more handsome. He has always loved his retro suit from the 70’s – every time we go to fancy parties he wears that suit and feels absolutely handsome. And that’s what he really is.  And now, after small shopping tour in cloth stores Ville has found his real style: shirt blouses, slip overs, vests, old jeans and hair done with wax like gentleman’s in the 50’s. Emilia loves his style and the way he looks.”

The couple are getting married next July surrounded by the Finnish countryside at the property that Emilia’s grew up in which belongs to her Father. The wedding will of course have a vintage/Rock n Roll theme and I can’t wait to see the photos!

Retro Sweethearts

“Christina has a love for all things vintage.” photographer Krys told me when she sent over Christina & CW’s engagement session. “She says, “if it looks old, I love it”, so we were on the same page with the idea of old buildings, rust, chipped bricks, and whatever else we could find in DeLand, FL where we had their engagement shoot. Christina and CW are definitely an amazing couple to work with. Not only were they down for anything I threw at them, they were amazing models as well (they also didn’t mind at all when I dropped an F-bomb or two). Christina wore a cute red swing dress with a sweet heart  top and electric blue wedges (later some vintage white wedges with an ankle strap). Too cute. CW, or C-Dub as I have nicknamed him, wore a western shirt and cowboy boots. This shoot was inspired by The Notebook, the south, and turning an ugly setting into prettiness.”

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Bea & Thomas flew from the UK to Germany with their photographers David & Klaus for a photo shoot to remember! David explains…

I took these images of Bea and Thomas with my photo partner, Klaus, in a dockyard and the whole idea was just to surprise the gorgeous couple (who did great even with zero modelling experience) with the surroundings. They had no idea where we were taking them (“bbb…but this isn’t the way to the airport!”) but by the time we cracked open the Champagne and set up the gear they were loving every bit of it.

A Shoot to Remember

Unable to shoot her cousin’s wedding, Lauri of Zoom Photography decided to give Kaya & Jon a day after shoot to remember!

Kaya and Jon are a true meeting of the minds. She works in advertising and he in finance, living in their Chicago loft, mostly run by their pug Chloe and bulldog Sebastian. Jon’s passionate love of music is apparent from the moment you meet him, his inspired word choice, verbose nature and unsurpassed loyalty also make an immediate impression. Kaya’s extroverted and vivacious qualities, coupled with her caring and generous nature make her noticeably standout in a room full of loud and boisterous people.

A Shoot to Remember

Unable to shoot her cousin's wedding, Lauri of Zoom Photography decided to give Kaya & Jon a day after shoot to remember! Kaya and Jon are a true meeting of the minds. She works in advertising and he in finance, living in their Chicago loft, mostly run by their pug Chloe and bulldog Sebastian. Jon's passionate love of music is apparent from the moment you meet him, his inspired word choice, verbose nature and unsurpassed loyalty also make an immediate impression. Kaya’s extroverted and vivacious qualities, coupled with her caring and generous nature make her noticeably standout in a room full of loud and boisterous people. Just four years ago, there was Jon making another brilliant decision before the blaring juke box at Pint, a Chicago bar. But, instead of steering to his old faithful albums in peace, his decision was abruptly challenged. A sassy, slightly rude girl leaned up against him as she uttered "don't play anything BAD". Little did she know, Jon's musical choices were never bad, but he did enjoy a challenge. Three years later they travelled through Europe, and Jon proposed in Poland, where Kaya was born. Pledging his life to her on the very soil where her life had begun, Jon asked that she spend spend the rest of her life with him. On September 26th, standing before all of their friends and family, they were married overlooking Lake Michigan, at the John G. Shedd Aquarium, downtown Chicago. In true family style, Kaya walked down the aisle with her great grandmother's necklace, her grandfather's WWII patch sewn into her dress, and her new mother-in law's sapphire ring, for a touch of something blue! The wedding colors were inspired by the aquarium, cool celadon greens, and dark emeralds; centerpieces accented with coral and branches borrowed from nature. The bride and groom chose to pass on wedding favors, in order to make a donation to their furry friends at the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago.
