Backyard Tipi Wedding with Skunk Anansie as the Wedding Band: Mark & Erika

Sigh! I just adore weddings liked Mark and Erika’s. Chilled out, not at all matchy-matchy and where everyone looks like they had a total blast. The couple didn’t wait a ‘tick the box’ wedding, instead they pulled inspiration from all over – their heritage, their home and their friends. “We didn’t really have a theme or colours that matched”, Erika wrote. “I have always been a mis-match kind of girl so we had elements of our backgrounds so Japan / Yorkshire / countryside / Autumn / vintage/ boho!”

The reception was held in a tipi in their own back garden. Erika wore a stunning 1920s vintage dress from Jane Bourvis and flowers in her hair. Her simple aqua necklace was a family heirloom and had been handed down by her mother.

“It was such a wonderful day, just having everyone there to share in our special day and to have all the love and support given to us”, she continued. “We just couldn’t define our wedding with one story – it was a complete day from start to end! The people around us made our wedding day interesting and unique. I have never done anything all that normal – I like being different and I like to have things relaxed. There was no pressure to have fun, we just wanted people to be in the moment and enjoy it. It was a home grown event where everyone was involved, like a little community. It was perfect for a tipi wedding!”

Atmospheric Lake District Wedding: Helen & Andy

I was rather over-excited when I laid eyes on Helen and Andy’s Lake District wedding, shot by the amazing Neil Douglas Photography. I mean what could be more incredible than getting wedding day portraits like these in a setting like that!? Hats off to the photographer of course, but also to the awesome couple for not being afraid to potentially get a little wet or muddy. I’d love to see more brave couples like this please, who’s with me?

The wedding was held in Buttermere, with the ceremony in a local church and the reception in a tipi in Buttermere field. The couple didn’t have a huge budget and opted to DIY and thrift a lot. Helen wore a dress which she bought off eBay for £100 and customised with her grandmother’s vintage fur (a last minute edition due to the weather).

“I am from from the Lake District and we love walking and being outside”, Helen began. “So we wanted to make our wedding a memorable long weekend for our guests. Most people arrived early Friday and stayed for the weekend, having Sunday afternoon tea and post-wedding cake at my parents’ house. We knew we wouldn’t be able to stick to a formal structure of the day once the drinks started flowing, so we squeezed the best man’s speech in on Friday night at the local pub.”

A Fashion-Forward Backyard Wedding with Special Guest Craig David!: Theo & Lisa

Theo & Lisa Wedding_ o&c-0076

When Theo & Lisa started an online campaign to get Craig David to perform at their August wedding, they never really thought they’d pull it off. But if you don’t ask you don’t get and all that…and with the help of their YouTube video that went viral, Mr David did in fact show up to the wedding and perform to their astonished guests! “We met in Oceana nightclub”, began Theo. “Lisa thought I really had the movement of a dancer! Craig David’s music brought us together and having him there at the wedding was literally a dream come true.”

“Our wedding was inspired by everything we love”, continued Lisa. “Music, fashion, friends and family. It really was a giant party. We didn’t want anyone to pay for anything apart from their travel there. For us, this was a party to celebrate everything our incredible friends and family have done for us over the years. We had a free bar which was one of the best things we did. The wedding was held in my dad’s back garden and we also had a camping village at the bottom of the garden where 90% of our guests camped-including myself and Theo! We sent a ‘tent tag’ with our invites, and asked everyone to deliver a tent to our house one week before the wedding. We then put them all up so they were ready for everyone when they arrived!”
