Dark Fairytale Wedding

Lina and Karl’s Swedish wedding was inspired by Grimm’s fairytales and the darker side of fantasy.

“We chose to call our wedding theme ‘dark fairytales’, alluding to the real endings of the Grimm fairytales and the writings of H.C. Andersen”, said the bride. “It also came from the love of fantasy and dressing up. We are the couple that wear elf ears and robes when The Hobbit opens in the cinema so we couldn’t have a ‘normal’ wedding! Visually, A Midsummer Nights Dream was a strong influence, but there were also nods to Tolkien, Norse and Greek mythology, Game of Thrones and many of our hobbies.”

The bride had her dress made by The Couture Company in the UK and the groom rocked a morning suit owned by his grandfather! “My dress was magical and working with Jo at The Couture Company was a joy from start to finish. My shoes came from Amazon and I decorated them myself. I also customised Karl’s suit a bit with feathers and some homemade little insects to match my dress. I made his antlers too, in black and gold. The influences for both of our outfits came from Titania and Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Hello Kitty Wedding!

Hello Kitty Wedding (17)

Caroline might just be the world’s biggest Hello Kitty fan, so when she married Daniel in June, there was only one theme she wanted! They were married in Northern Ireland and the first thing they organised was her dress.

“I never really thought I would get married, so I literally had no idea where to start”, she said. “I had a lot of personal battles to get through before the big day arrived, mostly about how I see myself. I have always been overweight and I’ve had my confidence knocked. I knew I would never be the typical beautiful bride, but honestly, planning the wedding helped me so much overcome my fears and I learned to embrace who I was.”

Outdoor Steampunk Wedding

Outdoor Steampunk Wedding (47)

Adam and Stacey’s wedding took place at Middle Coombe Farm in Devon. They had a non-traditional, steampunk inspired day which was planned by the groom!

“Our wedding theme was just ‘stuff we like'”, said the bride. “We didn’t want it to be traditional and the same as other weddings but we also didn’t want to cut things out just for the sake of being different. The venue played a big part in it because as soon as we’d decided where to have our wedding, everything else started falling into place. For example, once we decided we were getting married outside with a longish walk to the ceremony site, I knew I wasn’t going to wear white or heels.”

“Having a humanist ceremony made it incredibly personal to us”, she continued, “and my outfit was also so unique and special. We made everything very casual so that we could enjoy our day and we made a lot of things ourselves. Maybe the most unique part of the whole wedding is that it was actually Adam that did most of the planning and I was not really involved in the process!”
