Vintage Furniture, 35°C Heat & Brand New Blogging BFFs

blogcademy_new_york_city_110

I’ve been throwing the word ‘whirlwind’ around a lot lately, but goodness these past few weeks have really been one! I’ve strolled around the streets of Manhattan, danced with a disco ball, made custom lipsticks, got a crazy Japanese glitter manicure, found my perfect wrist candy, had a coughing fit live on the internet, hosted a lunch date with our past students, eaten a tub of popcorn larger than my head, posed on velvet couches on city block corners and got locked on a rooftop… and that was just in the first few days!

We did two Blogcademy classes on this trip and I’ll be blogging all about the Minneapolis adventures soon, but today it’s all about my favourite city in the whole wide world – New Yaaawk!

We held our class at the amazing Rent Patina in Brooklyn, the most glorious white walled loft space filled to the brim with vintage furniture, knick knacks and oddities. I’d never been over the bridge before (except when a taxi driver got lost one time but that’s a story for another day) so it was super fun to explore a brand new neighbourhood. As we walked in on day one we were overcome with awe and wonder at all the pretty things to look at!

Rock n Rapunzel Inspiration Shoot

Rapunzel - 101

Today is an exciting day because it’s time for the New York Blogcademy! I can’t wait to meet the new crop of enthusiastic bloggers who come to the class. It’s always one of my favourite moments of the whole weekend and to celebrate, I wanted to share this awesomely creative shoot submitted by wedding planner and stylish Georgina of Ruby Weddings. Georgina came to the workshop in London in January and I’m so thrilled to share her work with you guys today, what a talented bunch of babes our students are!

Rapunzel - 041

“Photographer Shannon of SLR Photography and I wanted to create a series of inspirational bridal shoots for couples looking to do something different for their wedding day”, Georgina writes. “We want to encourage them to think outside of the box. Shannon loves Disney films so we decided to re-create the popular fairytale stories with a little twist. We imagined Rapunzel as a kick ass girl trying to escape from her tower, and when she does finally break free she marries the man of her dreams – a little corny but that is how all of the best fairytales end!”

Working with a Copywriter

big

With the next round of workshops just round the corner Gala, Shauna and I decided that a revamp was in order. We’re literally never satisfied and are always thinking of things that can be tweaked, improved or built upon with brand Blogcademy.

The original overview we had on the site, while good, lacked some… oomph. We were struggling to put the real essence of the workshop into words and needed help. The three of all are all pretty good writers but it can be really difficult to look at something objectively, especially if you’ve put so much love and effort into it already. So we called upon copywriter Ash of The Middle Finger Project.

When we got the rework back we were blown away. It had so much power, pizazz and …yeah… oomph! It covers all those things we were trying to say ourselves but couldn’t, and totally encapsulates what The Blogcademy is all about.

I can’t recommend working with a copywriter, and Ash in particular, enough. If you’re struggling to put your ideas into words, you’re cringing over writing your about page, or you need some fresh eyes to look over your website copy, they are invaluable. I’m so proud of this rework. It’s got me all fired up and I can’t wait to do the next workshop in New York this weekend!

Of course I figured you might be interested so the result is pasted below. I’d love to hear from you guys on this one too. Have you ever worked with a copywriter? What results did you see?

INTRO

Calling all aspiring blog queens and small business owners. The heartfully headstrong, the radically rambunctious. The devilishly demure. The loud ones, the quiet ones, the sweet ones and the vixens. And every single up-and-coming BLOGGING BABE IN BETWEEN.

Whether you’ve been blogging for forever, or just getting started… THIS IS THE BLOGCADEMY.

Because blogging is no joke, and it’s time to take yours to the next level. It’s where three A-list bloggers, thirty A-list students, and the magic of in-person collaboration combine.

Enough fooling around.

It’s time to make a living with your blog.

And we’re coming to your city… TO SHOW YOU EXACTLY HOW.

THE LOWDOWN

Contrary to popular belief, blogs aren’t just online diaries for stylish mavens in six inch heels; they’re an essential tool for anyone who owns a business, wants a business, or wants to do business… Period.

Bloggers are the ultimate “it” girls: They sit front row at fashion week, they launch magazines to wild acclaim, and they are able to make a living in a way that leaves the 9-5 crowd for dead.

There’s just one little thing…

It takes strategy. Insight. Technique. And talent.

Because you might be the best at what you do, but if you aren’t the best at blogging about it… You don’t exist.

And that’s precisely why we’ve created The Blogcademy: to help every single hard-working wonder-woman get the recognition she wants — and the lifestyle she DESERVES. We’ve only got one go around at this thing called life. We might as well give it EVERYTHING WE’VE GOT — turquoise sequins and 80’s dance-offs very much included.

The Blogcademy: Live From New York!

LIVESTREAM_NYC_1

After the runaway success of the livestream from Portland, my fellow Blogcademy headmistresses and I decided it was high time to do another one. So, on Monday 24th June at 10 am PST / 1pm EST / 6pm GMT we’ll be broadcasting live from The Blogcademy’s NYC HQ!

We will be talking about the lessons we’ve personally learned from teaching The Blogcademy, and engaging in some lively debate about current changes we’re making to our own blogs. After that, it’s over to you and we’ll be taking your questions. To make sure we see yours, be sure to submit them in advance, because it’s easy to miss them when they’re asked live (and we’d hate to miss the one that’s really been plaguing you…!)

If you are unable to attend a workshop in person (sad face) or you’re still not quite sure if the class is for you, then this is the perfect event for you to get a little taster of what this crazy Blogcademy thing is all about.

Where is the Turquoise Tornado™ Going Now?

BLOGCADEMY_NEWDATES_4

Goodness, what a rollercoaster The Blogcademy has been already, and today we’re about to take another upside-down corkscrew followed by a loop the loop because we’re adding even more dates to our 2013 world tour! Your headmistresses are nothing if not diligent, and when we announced the full wack of dates back in March, there were some outcries that we weren’t going down to any of the Southern US states… Well, your wish is our command and so we’ve added an Austin date in August. BRING. IT. ON.

But that’s not all. The Melbourne class sold out so damn speedily, that we’ve decided to add a second date on our way home from Australia. It means we’re pretty much going to be away from home for a whole month (!) but hey, we love ya and we know you’re gonna make it worth our while! Our poor suffering husbands will just have to hold the fort at our respective homes a little while longer I guess…
