“We wish we knew how much fun wedding planning would be!” said Carly. “Everyone goes on about how stressful it is but we just found planning each element so much fun. Just follow the books’ checklist and you can’t step wrong!”

Moody Meets Art Deco Wedding with a Dog & Toddler Bridal Party!

They say never work with children or animals but Lane and Amanda threw that, and many other old adages and traditions, out the window when it came to planning their big day – they had their dog, Penny, and Amanda’s son, River, as the only members of their bridal party!

Instead of a first look, Lane and Amanda decided to do a ‘first touch’. They had gifts to give each other, and so stood round a corner from one another to exchange them and have a precious moment together before the celebrations kicked off.

The moment that Amanda had thought about the most in the lead up to their wedding was walking down the aisle. “I definitely thought I would be sobbing and unable to hold myself together,” said Amanda, “but when I saw everyone out there and Lane standing at the end of the aisle, I was overcome with immense joy in the form of hysterical laughter. I just could not stop laughing!”

A Midsummer Eco-Friendly Bohemian Glasshouse Wedding

Raych and Stu are both creatives, so their imagination ran away with them a little when they dreamed up their wedding day. The initial inspiration was Midsummer Night’s Dream – an ethereal, boho, garden vibe with touches of magic throughout. No matter where their dreams took them, they stuck to two non-negotiables for decision making for their big day – every element should be about them and their guests instead of following a tradition, and it had to be eco-conscious; everything would be be reused, recycled, environmentally friendly, or where things were bought, they would be from small businesses.

Their venue, The Secret Herb Garden, Edinburgh, was their biggest expense of their £15,000 budget, but was a total steal for their theme; the abundance of flowers and greenery meant they needed very little in the way of additional decor in order to capture the mood they wanted. Stu had proposed to Raych the previous year in a field of wild heather, so it was absolutely perfect for them to get married a year to the day in a greenhouse full of wild heather, lavender, thyme and rosemary.

Star Spangled NYC Elopement

Beth and Dave decided to elope to NYC as they wanted a relaxed and fun day that was filled with all their favourite things! “Dave and I are not very confident people, so the thought of a big ceremony, with all eyes on us and expectations to be a certain way wasn’t something either of us wanted to do,” explained Beth. “We love New York so decided to hotfoot it to our favourite city, ignore the opinions of others and have the day we both wanted!”

Their elopement shunned tradition from start to finish – they spent the morning together, enjoying some down time drinking coffee and eating cannolis before parting ways to get ready. “It was so nice to share the excitement of the morning together, and also to have some time to relax before the hectic day ahead,” said Beth. “I’ll never forget the way Dave looked at me when we met up to leave for the ceremony!”

An Intimate Lakeside Elopement with a Picnic Reception!

Marjolaine and Julian’s first meeting was your classic love story – at a costume party. He was dressed as a pirate and she was dressed as a banana! “Whenever I think about it, it makes me laugh that Julian decided ‘Tonight I’m going to flirt with the girl dressed as a banana'”, laughed Marjolaine. He must’ve seen beneath her yellow exterior as they’ve been inseparable ever since.

They both live and work in the city, but their favourite past-time is getting lost in nature. Marjolaine was never the sort of girl who had big dreams of a wedding, but she did find herself following wedding blogs as she found the pictures so inspiring. When she stumbled upon photos of a couple who married in the middle of nowhere, alone, without guests, without an officiant – just them, nature and lot of love, she knew that this version of a wedding was one she could get on board with.
