Gothic Fantasy Glam Gender Non-Conforming Elopement

River and Raven are an unconventional couple in all senses of the word. Although both male (and using male pronouns) they favour a more feminine gothic aesthetic so this, and their mutual love of fantasy gaming, was the main inspiration for their November elopement.

They met online, in a forum dedicated to a fantasy video game that they both love. Neither of them were looking for a relationship at the time, especially in such an unexpected place, but they ended up falling for each other very hard and very fast.

River writes, “The inspiration for our wedding was a bit of fantasy mixed with a bit of high fashion. We wanted to incorporate our mutual interest in dramatic fantasy since it was what brought us together, but we also wanted the ceremony to be lighthearted, a little silly, and stress free, so we combined the two contrasting concepts.”

They wanted to celebrate their day with their closest loved ones and avoid anything to formal or fancy.

Stress-Free & Sparkly Belgravia Pub Wedding

Ashlie and Steph wanted a stress and fuss-free pub wedding with minimal details and things to worry about! Although they made the table numbers, photo booth and favours themselves, they also didn’t stress over them. The most important thing was that they had a day that felt like them and that they were married by the end of it!

Their ceremony was held at Chelsea Old Town Hall followed by a reception at The Orange public house in Belgravia, where they actually had their very first date. “We wanted a wedding that had the focus on people and not details”, Ashlie began, “and i think we created that perfectly. Having vegan food and drink was also very important to me.”

A Tuesday Morning Manchester City Centre Wedding

Becs and Megs’ simple wedding started with a ceremony at Manchester register office followed by a restaurant reception at No 1 Canal Street. Armed with a budget of £3500 they only included things they cared about, wore outfits from Karen Millen and kept the extra decorations minimal. The flowers were limited to their bouquets and the flowers in their hair.

“Our wedding theme was Manchester city centre, rainbow and glitter gay!” they said. “We just love each other and wanted to get married! That was all the inspiration we needed.”

They actually started by planning a secret wedding ten weeks before the date. They were going to just ask just two friends to be witnesses which is why they ended up getting married on a Tuesday at 11am! “The ideas then began to grow as we decided we couldn’t be married without our dearest present to celebrate”, they continued. “We were so humbled that people came from Switzerland, Scotland, Ireland, Devon, London, the lakes, the Midlands and Manchester to support us. Everyone had to take a day off work and make childcare arrangements, but none of this seemed to matter to them, we invited them and they were so happy to be invited. We loved marching them across Manchester form the registry office to Canal Street, carrying seven rainbow umbrellas just in case!”

Dogs, Donuts and DIY: A Nature Inspired Wedding in York

Emma and Eliza’s May wedding was inspired by nature and their love of their doggos! Married at Deepdale Farm in York, it was the perfect setting for their laid back meets festival meets DIY celebration.

Their humanist ceremony was led by Louisa of Starr Gazing Ceremonies. It even included a letter from their dog Max who couldn’t be there with them (aww!) “The ceremony was so lovely”, Emma said. “It was completely bespoke, Louisa was amazing and created a whole ceremony around our favourite things – drinking, animals, travelling and each other. It got all the guests involved and it was so much fun. It fitted us perfectly. Our family dog, Tigger, was our ring bearer and he was so well behaved and cute, wearing a lil tux, we loved that he was involved in the day. A funny moment was part way through the ceremony when we realised my Dad had his shoes on the wrong feet! It cracked everyone up and sums up my Dad perfectly.”

Florence Welch Directed by Wes Anderson & a Dash of Sailor Moon

If you don’t immediately love Cami and Pilo and their INCREDIBLE OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD BEAUTIFUL wedding then we can never be friends. Period. They were married at a friends house in Chile in April. The wedding was a collaborative project between them and their friends, they even self-catered the entire event!

The day was inspired by the aesthetics of Florence Welch and Wes Anderson as well as Sailor Moon. They actually met as Sailor Moon cosplay team mates,”Cami was Sailor Neptune and Pilo was Sailor Uranus”, they said.

Of their $2000 budget, they saved the most on the catering (DIY), the venue (a friends house) and entertainment (Spotify playlist). Cami’s dress was also a gift. “Pilo works as Art Director, so he designed every visual piece, from the save the date image to the bathroom sign and the favours. We filled every little organza bag with pink salt from the Andes, tied the little ropes and everything.”
