Dogs, Donuts and DIY: A Nature Inspired Wedding in York

Emma and Eliza’s May wedding was inspired by nature and their love of their doggos! Married at Deepdale Farm in York, it was the perfect setting for their laid back meets festival meets DIY celebration.

Their humanist ceremony was led by Louisa of Starr Gazing Ceremonies. It even included a letter from their dog Max who couldn’t be there with them (aww!) “The ceremony was so lovely”, Emma said. “It was completely bespoke, Louisa was amazing and created a whole ceremony around our favourite things – drinking, animals, travelling and each other. It got all the guests involved and it was so much fun. It fitted us perfectly. Our family dog, Tigger, was our ring bearer and he was so well behaved and cute, wearing a lil tux, we loved that he was involved in the day. A funny moment was part way through the ceremony when we realised my Dad had his shoes on the wrong feet! It cracked everyone up and sums up my Dad perfectly.”

Intimate Bandstand Wedding with a Reception in their own Back Garden

Alison and Elizabeth wanted an intimate ceremony followed by a pub lunch and then a big party for all their loved ones in their own back garden. They chose London’s smallest registered wedding venue to get married in – the bandstand in Myatt’s Fields Park, a community-run garden between Camberwell and Brixton. Their day had an overarching theme of flowers and gardens so hired Charley at the London Flower House to decorate the bandstand as well as the marquee frame in their garden with seasonal blooms.

“We are really into our gardening and love big bright flowers”, they explained. “We didn’t have to add much decoration to our garden for the party, but Charley was able to bring all the same colours into our floral arrangements. It all came together really nicely. We kept other decorations to a minimum so the flowers decorating the bandstand and the marquee really stood out.”

Florence Welch Directed by Wes Anderson & a Dash of Sailor Moon

If you don’t immediately love Cami and Pilo and their INCREDIBLE OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD BEAUTIFUL wedding then we can never be friends. Period. They were married at a friends house in Chile in April. The wedding was a collaborative project between them and their friends, they even self-catered the entire event!

The day was inspired by the aesthetics of Florence Welch and Wes Anderson as well as Sailor Moon. They actually met as Sailor Moon cosplay team mates,”Cami was Sailor Neptune and Pilo was Sailor Uranus”, they said.

Of their $2000 budget, they saved the most on the catering (DIY), the venue (a friends house) and entertainment (Spotify playlist). Cami’s dress was also a gift. “Pilo works as Art Director, so he designed every visual piece, from the save the date image to the bathroom sign and the favours. We filled every little organza bag with pink salt from the Andes, tied the little ropes and everything.”

Intimate Bohemian Wedding with Italian & Russian Traditions

Selene and Marina, can we be friends? I mean, seriously, look at how lovely everything is! The couple were married last September at Trulli di Montaltino, a holiday rental in Puglia, Italy.

Seven year ago Selene, who was living in Italy, met Marina, originally from Russia, when they were randomly both selected to attend the same training program in Atlanta, USA – talk about fate! “Since the beginning we had a special connection and in few months we became best friends”, Selene explained.

“After a year of great friendship, it became something more, something so just so precious and rare. It was the first time for both of us to have a relationship with a woman (we both only had relationships we guys in the past). As I had to go back to Italy and Marina moved to Los Angeles to proceed her studies, we lived the first two years of our relationship far away. It has been incredible tough, however it help on creating a special relationship based on trust, a true unconditional love. After two years of long distance relationship I moved to NYC for work and she moved from LA to NYC so we could finally live together and enjoy every day of our lives. I proposed her on a desert beach in the Caribbean and I still remember the happiness I felt when she said yes, she completes me. She is my best friend, my partner, my lover … my happiness.”

Geeky & Eclectic Feminist Wedding

Self-confessed geeky feminists, Bunty and Sophie wanted a low key, low cost wedding that was full of love and personal details. “We’re both quite geeky so we wanted to have that reflected in the style of the day”, Bunty explained. “We tried to incorporate science, plants, literature and my love of everything gold! We used Pinterest a lot to try budget ideas and of course Rock n Roll Bride!! We spent less than £5000 on the whole affair and we did everything ourselves with help from family and friends.”

Bunty found her Ronald Joyce dress second-hand on eBay for just £120 and Sophie’s suit came fro Ted Baker, the bridesmaids wore various outfits from high street stores. The cake was homemade by Sophie and they did their own invitations. They also didn’t have a band or DJ, opting for a DIY Spotify playlist, and they served Indian food instead of fancy catering.
