Issy Loves her Dress

Issy’s ‘Love your Dress’ shoot took place in Raphael Park, Gidea Park in Essex. Her dress was by designer Ugo Zaldi and her hairband was actually found at BHS!

Issy has a love of the 1960’s and has a really classic look from that era with her cute pixie crop hair, so the whole styling of the shoot, from Issy’s dress to the props, was set around this vibe.

An Alexander McQueen Inspiration

Contain yourselves people, I have an pretty damn awesome wedding to share today! Rachel & Brandon, a Mormon couple, are definitely Rock n Roll – just check out that bride’s style! Rachel’s Mum made her dress (OMG!)  inspired by Alexander McQueen and Project Runway!

“I got the idea from a dress by the late Alexander McQueen (loved him) and Project Runway” Rachel told me. “I think it was season 5…Kenley was the contestant’s name and she totally ripped of McQueen, but her rip off gave me the idea for MY rip off and the idea for my dress was born. When I got engaged (like a year after that season aired), I emailed my mom some pictures of the dresses and asked if she could make one like that for me. She, being the amazing mom that she is, told me she would try. So we spent the next few months finding fabric and combining patterns. My dad helped with the skirt-he is a mechanical engineer-so he helped us figure out how to tier the fabric so it wouldn’t collapse on itself due to the weight of the feathers. And we ordered the feathers, which were ostrich I believe, from some craft place in the south, I think they were from Louisiana or something. The dress is actually 3 pieces-there’s the bodice with a tulle skirt attached, then an underskirt that is more or less a hoop skirt, and then the feather skirt that goes over the top and attaches with some buttons and a hook & eye.”

Rachel teamed her amazing dress with shoes from ebay and a hairpiece that her husband made for her (seriously OMG how adorable are these two!?)  He glued a brooch Rachel had found in a bridal store to a feather, then added some ribbon and pearls and put it all onto a clear comb. Ta da!

Rules are Made to be Broken

As many of you will already know, I like to pride myself and my blog on individuality and posting some of the best, exclusive and new weddings out there. However rules are made to be broken right?! I actually saw and loved Alicia & Jack’s wedding a while back on another wedding blog (I even included it in a Thursday Treats post) but when their videographer Thomas of Vantage Point Films sent me the link to their gorgeous video (which hasn’t been seen elsewhere) I couldn’t help but as if I could share some of the photographs taken by Carla Ten Eyck Photography too. Sound good?

“For most wedding vendors, a couple like Alicia and Jack reminds us why we do what we do” Thomas began. “Just when you’re thinking ‘another day, another wedding’, they infuse their cool style into the day, and put the ‘art’ back in ‘artist’ for you. They were hip, they were classy, and two of the sweetest people you’d ever want to work with. Of course it helps when, as a videographer, you get to shadow photographer Carla Ten Eyck all day, as she navigates her hometown of Hartford, CT. It makes my job a lot easier when the photographer is on the top of their game.”

I then got to speak to the bride, Alicia who explained that unlike a lot of ‘girlie girls’ she had never been one to fantasise about her wedding day. She is sooo the perfect Rock n Roll Bride inspiration! “Unlike many of my girly-girl friends, I hadn’t fantasized about my wedding day for my entire life and I certainly had no idea of what I wanted the dress to look like. I tried to go through the motions of trying dresses at the bridal shops- you know, the whole bridal circus…. but as soon as I discovered this Betsey Johnson dress  I knew I’d found it. I’d been admiring and wearing her fashion since I was thirteen. This dress just fit me perfectly, in more ways than one.”

Mad Hatter Rock n Roll Bride ~ Candy Floss, Beach Huts & The Great British Seaside

It’s that time of immense excitement for me again, when I finally get to share with you a ‘lil project I’ve been busying myself with behind the scenes. Unbelievably this shoot has been in the pipeline for over a year but it’s only now that I’ve had the time to get it all organised properly!

The Photographer
I first met Eliza Claire just over a year ago at the very first ‘Rock n Roll Bride meet’. We met in a teeny cocktail bar in central London. We drank cosmopolitans and mojitos and talked way into the night about business, photography and changing the face of the UK wedding industry…and look how far we’ve come in only a year! At this first meeting we talked about doing a photo shoot together and would you believe it’s actually taken this long to get it together. However, as always, the wait was so worth it as within the past 12 months we’ve got to know so many more amazing people in the industry, a few of which we asked along to join in the fun.
