A Winter-Themed Shoot & a Bride with Purple Hair

Becky’s bridal shoot was the brainchild of wedding photographer Bethan Haywood Jones. She found Becky online and loved her look (hello, purple hair!) and so approached her with the idea of a winter themed shoot. “Aaaaah, winter. I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan on the whole!” Bethan explained. “It’s cold, it’s dark, most things appear to be dead and it rains a lot. However, the winter weddings I am lucky enough to shoot are usually bursting with love, life and enough warm things to make your toes feel toasty. So my inspiration for this bridal shoot was to show that even on the greyest of days it isn’t too hard to inject a bit of colour into your day.”

“I love Becky’s purple hair and that was the starting point for my theming ideas. I warned her that we would be spending most of the day shooting outside and promised cake to make up for it, but I have to say she was an absolute star, sitting in the freezing cold in a little dress and peep toe shoes. The thing about bridal shoots is that often there is zero budget to pull them together, so again I sent out a few emails and found some amazing people to work with who loaned us items for the shoot.”

“The stationery was hand printed by Chris Smith who runs his own company called One After Nine. He specialises in simple and bold graphic design and typography while using methods such as screen printing and letterpress to produce the work. The dress and coat were borrowed from Lucky Bitch Boutique, who sell a mixture of original vintage items and hand made jewellery and accessories. Doris Designs loaned a kick ass hot pink petticoat to really bring the dress to life.”

“Most of the other bits and pieces were things I already owned and I made my favourite party purple punch. The little glass bottles I actually dug up from my garden! See…. weddings don’t need to be expensive!”

Elbie’s Bridal Shoot in Regent’s Park

Many of you will know who Elbie van Eeden is. She’s my hair & make up artist of choice, I utterly love her and use her for pretty much all my shoots now! Elbie was married earlier this year in South Africa (I featured the wedding here) and when she returned to the UK, photographer Natalie J Watts asked her if she’d like to do a bridal shoot with her.

“I know Natalie through her amazing fashion work, and when she asked me to do a shoot with her, I jumped at the chance,” Elbie explained. “Little did I know that I would end up being a subject!”

“Natalie was looking for brides who recently got married, and after a while I realised that she intended on using me as a model, and not the make up artist that I thought I’d be! I quickly rushed to Beyond Retro to get a skirt for me to wear with the corset top of my dress, as my full wedding dress would have been way too big to get to the UK!”

“Off we went to Regents Park, and although it was quite an experience running around in a massive dress on a hot day, surrounded by shocked onlookers, I had such a great time, she made me feel right at ease.”

Cathedral of Junk

I’ve got a second kick ass bridal shoot for you today. This self-titled ‘Cathedral of Junk’ shoot had me as soon as I saw this gal’s green and purple tresses and of course her ink. The junkyard location is just perfecto and creates such a unique mood.

Punk Rock

I have a cocktail induced sore head today so posting may be lighter and/or make no sense today. I am struggling to string a sentence together…
This shoot by Kelly Moore kind of made my head hurt even more due to all the brightness but I love it too much not to post. Of course there is no relation to weddings at all within this shoot, but it’s so pretty it’s worth a mini deviation.

Til Death Us Do Part

With this being the theme of Athena & Aaron’s wedding, where better to have their engagement shoot than in a graveyard? I am loving Athena’s tattoos, fishnets and gorgeous ruby ring… And a man with purple hair? well that’s my kinda guy!
