Autumnal, Vintage Inspired Halloween Wedding

Pumpkins are Courtney’s favourite thing so, not only did Matt propose with “Will You Marry Me?’ carved into one, but they chose October 31st as their wedding date and went for an autumnal theme with lots of pumpkins everywhere! From the décor to the invites and even the bride’s earrings!

The chose Eco Studio Village in Mudgeeraba, Queensland as their venue and did all the decorating themselves. They bought flowers from the supermarket where Matt works and his cousin made the cake. The stationery was all homemade by the bride using her iPad and Procreate and the music was provided by the bride and her son, who spent hours and hours perfecting playlists! It was the perfect mix of emo love songs, 90s pop bangers and songs from their youth. And, of course, Matt carved A LOT of pumpkins!

Fairytales in DIY: A Purple Themed October Loch Wedding

They chose Venachar Lochside as the location for their stunning October wedding and Mazz and Alex made all their decisions for the day based on what did or did not spark joy. The bride wore a full purple/ dusky rose ensemble – from her Rosie Red Corsetry dress, painted shoes (which she did herself!) and even her freshly dyed hair. The flowers were a mix of purple and red, to compliment Alex’ tartan, and they had pumpkins all over the place to reflect the season.

“My dress was a nice dusky rose colour with a pale blue top corset to combine the colours in our two family tartans”, she explained. “I also LOVE fairies and fairytales, and my favourite story in the whole world is Peter Pan, so I painted an amended Peter Pan quote on my shoes, and asked Rosie to sew a crescent moon with some stars, and the second star to the right to be bigger than the rest as a reference. We also decorated the wishing well with pages from a fairy story book we found in a charity shop when we went to give notice, and used the same book to make our confetti cones.”

Autumnal, Halloween & Geode Themed Wedding with Grandma’s Cookie Recipe

Madeline and Patrick wanted their day to be the perfect combination of everything they love. Madeline is studying to become a geologist, so they incorporated lots of geodes, rocks and other fun references to geology throughout their day. “We are also a Halloween obsessed family,” she explained, “so it only felt right to get married as close to Halloween as possible with a bunch of spooky details.”

They included a lot of unique, handmade details from themselves and talented friends and family – from the homemade agate wedding arch by Madeline’s dad to her veil by her mum. They had homemade wildflower seed bombs and Halloween candy bags as wedding favours. They used rocks as place names that they’d spent forever collecting, and hand-lettered pumpkins for signage. Their guests got to drink from a different coloured glass goblet that the couple had spent years hunting for in the thrift stores. They made a Polaroid guest book in lieu of a photo booth. It was important to the couple that they had full creative control over one of the most important days of their lives.
