Moonrise Kingdom Wedding

Vintage Inspired Pittsburgh Wedding Submission (41)

Maggie and Dean’s wedding was inspired by their love of the great outdoors, so much so that the bride’s sister-in-law dubbed it as a Moonrise Kingdom themed wedding!

“Our wedding was kind of a fusion of a couple of things that were important to us”, explained the bride. “One aspect was our love of the outdoors, and all the camping and fishing we do. We blended that with our enjoyment of vintage style.”

“A lot of our bonding as a couple was done while spending time outdoors, so we wanted to make it feel like ‘camp’ for all our guests. Also, for our second date, Dean took me to a dive bar that had a dance party, fuelled by a DJ playing all vinyl records from the 50’s and 60’s. DJ Junior, better known as Jeff Roberts, held those dance parties once a month but he eventually moved from Pittsburgh to Nashville. When we got engaged, we asked if he would drive to Pittsburgh, with his record collection, and DJ our wedding. To our shock and delight, he agreed. We wanted to relive that date at our reception, and let all of our guests enjoy the great party that comes with dancing to music from that genre.”

Rustic Elegant Wedding on a Farm

Isola Farms wedding (67)

Jake and Emily were married at Isola Farms in Florida. They wanted their wedding to “make our love a tangible thing people could see and feel”.

The ceremony was held outside, and was both of their favourite parts of the day. “Our ceremony was beyond perfect”, said Emily. “Nestled in between two giant oak trees with chandeliers hanging above our flowered cross, it was more beautiful than I could have ever dreamed of. Jake was so perfect standing there trying hard not to cry. Our vows were hand-written in books that we both used for wedding planning. I cannot describe the feelings, other than to say it was so much better than I had hoped for.”

The couple did nearly all the décor themselves. “A very, VERY large portion of our décor was DIY”, she continued. “If it was not done by me it was done by a close family friend or relative. Everything from our chalkboard signs to our photo booth. We thought, what better way to show our love then to make everything hand-written? We even had hand-written notes for each guest on their seat at the reception.”

Casual Wedding Officiated by Batman

Wedding Officiated by Batman (13)

I’m not sure there’s anything cooler than having your wedding officiated by a superhero! Emily and Eric’s Saratoga Springs wedding wasn’t really themed though, they just picked random things that they liked and threw them all together.

“Our wedding was casual with a touch of vintage, and rustic,” said the bride. “We didn’t have one set theme. Our minister was Batman and the ceremony was short and sweet. Our officiant wrote a beautiful speech and we did our own vows. The tone was very honest and sincere. The strangest part was that even though we were up there in front of all of our friends and family, it felt like it was just us and our minister. It was very intimate. Don’t look at the crowd! ”

“We spent months collecting vintage oil lamps for décor”, she continued. “We also took part in a German log cutting tradition. We also had pictures to honour some of our loved ones who are no longer with us (his granddads, my grandparents) on a little table as part of our lounge set up. We did our own flower arrangements and my dad made all of the wooden boxes. The day before the wedding all the women in the family got together and had mimosas and arranged the flowers. We were supposed to have two cakes delivered, but they didn’t show up! So some friends ran off to a supermarket and bought a bunch of different cakes. In the end, our cake table ended up looking beautiful!”

Bohemian Wedding at The Keeper and the Dell

Danielle and Darren were set up on a blind date. Their wedding was inspired by a trip to Tunisia and their love of travel in general. They were also influenced by Glastonbury and their family, friends and children.

The wedding was held at The Keeper and the Dell, a unique outdoor wedding venue in Norfolk. The ceremony was held outside. “We stood outside the marquee, with the beautiful wooden dressing screen for the backdrop”, the bride explained.  “The sun shone so brightly and our sons held the rings. Darren’s father officiated the ceremony. I loved coming down the aisle with my nine bridesmaids.”

“Some of our favourite details were the buddha heads, the scent sticks and the fact that we had no table plan or set menus. We had bell tents and colourful fabrics lining the marquee, large rugs and mosaic dishes. We covered some old bus seats from a car boot sale which were bought for £3 for the guests to sit on. We were all in bohemian dresses with bare feet, tipsy dancing, non-stop smiling and laughing.”

Colourful Old Fort Wedding

colourful Old Fort wedding (17)

Johnny and Michelle wanted a colourful, funky and fun wedding. “We wanted the environment and décor to be a visual representation of our personalities”, said the bride. “This led us in a lot of different directions that included things like bright colours and watercolour cakes. We also had a bit of southwestern influence from the groom and bohemian style from the bride. It was great to see all these different ideas come together to form a single cohesive look for the wedding!”

“We’re very colourful and animated people so we wanted a casual, relaxed, fun atmosphere with vibrant, whimsical touches”, she continued. “We also really wanted to throw a party for all our family and friends!”

Burning Man meets a Magical Fairy Land Wedding

Burning Man meets a Magical Fairy Wedding (48)

Megan and Pasha met on OK Cupid. Both having been married before, they decided that they wanted their wedding to be unapologetically them!

“Our wedding theme was Burning Meets a magical fairy land!” Megan told me excitedly. “In particular we were inspired by our Burning Man camp: Pretentious Fox. We are both artists and we created large flower sculptures that lit up to decorate space (I created a tutorial here!). When we found our wedding, Precious Forest in Lucerne CA , we knew it was the place for us. We had to haul everything 4,000 ft. up to the top of a mountain for our unforgettable five day wedding but it was worth it! Having a five day wedding was great! It meant we got to spent a lot of time with the people we love and most of our guests camped with us.”

“We held the wedding on Friday, July 3rd so we could relax and enjoy the 4th of July with the stress of the wedding already over”, she continued. “We rented boats and kayaks for the 4th, then came back to camp where our friends threw us an afternoon tea party which then led to a forest rave. The party went until 7am when we all shared a bottle of prosecco and watched the sunrise around the camp fire (which was shaped like a heart!)”
