Nature and Victorian Fairy Inspired Vegan Wedding: Vikki & John

When a bride is a wedding dress designer you just know she’s going to rock something truly incredible on her own wedding day. Getting married to John at the spectacular Westonbirt School, Gloucestershire, Vikki wore two stunning gowns, both of which she made herself. She also handmade her bridesmaid’s dresses and accessories.

The day had two ceremonies, the first, a humanist handfasting blessing outside followed by the legal one right afterwards. The couple opted to do this as they really wanted to get married outside to fit in with their nature theme, but it is unfortunately still not legal in England.  “We had two ceremonies rolled into one, a personal and intimate hand-fasting ceremony in a woodland clearing in the grounds and then immediately afterwards a short legal ceremony in the library”, Vikki explained.

Rustic Vintage Wedding with a Hippy Flare: Eric & Megan

Eric and Megan’s colourful Oklahoma wedding took place in May. They wanted an outdoor ceremony and the Festivities Event Center in El Reno was the perfect setting. They also wanted a chilled out wedding where their guests could relax and so they really didn’t care about too much fuss and didn’t stress out over all the little details.

“Let me be honest”, began Megan, “I don’t really care about everything being perfect or super intricate. It was never a concern of mine to have the fanciest and most detail oriented decorations. I wanted our wedding to be a reflection of who we are and nothing else, so that’s what we created. We made decorations that had meaning to us and reflected our own personal styles. I am obsessed with birds (so much so I have them tattooed across my back) so I made sure there were birds everywhere, whether they went with the theme or not. I truly took on the thought that it didn’t really matter what anyone else thought. The wedding was going to reflect us regardless of what may look the best, what might be the coolest, or what anyone else might think, and if that’s not Rock n Roll I don’t know what is! Also, having bright orange hair and the random dashes of Star Wars stuff certainly helped add some quirk to the whole shindig.”

Playful Cornish Wedding: Emily & Matt

Matt & Emily by Amanda Wilcher-53

Emily and Matt were married at the beautiful Trelowarren in Cornwall. These self-catering cottages provided the perfect backdrop to their laid back outdoor wedding. The bride wore an Isabel Marant gown and Chanel sandals. She hand-stitched her own veil.

“I had never dreamed about a big wedding”, Emily began. “The only thought I had ever really had was for it to be outside, like in the American movies I grew up watching (not that our wedding particularly ended up like that!) So that was a good starting point which inspired our choice of venue, the stunning Trelowarren Estate. We both wanted to get married in Cornwall which is where we live now. We love it here so much so it felt like the perfect place. We chose Trelowarren as it had a beautiful lawn in the courtyard of an old chapel. This is where we had the ceremony in front of a magnolia tree. The area is also very woodlandy which reminded me of where I grew up in Herefordshire.”

“As we wanted an outdoor ceremony this also lead to us choosing a Humanist ceremony, although I think we would have chosen one anyway. We had been to our friends humanist wedding and felt it was the most beautiful ceremony we had ever witnessed. It was so personal and unique to the couple and filled with humour and love. We also wrote our own vows which at first seemed daunting but in reality was much easier and something we will always remember. Matt’s a big music lover and chose some incredible lyrics for his vows which encapsulated how he felt.”

‘Food & Tunes’ – A Laid Back Sydney Wedding: Jessica & Anand

Jessica & Anand’s November wedding took place in Sydney, Australia. The outdoor ceremony was held at The Herb Garden & Pavilion at the Royal Botanic Gardens, and their reception was at The Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay. Before the couple even started to plan their wedding, they knew they had to include their two main passions in the day – food and music.

“We both work in the music industry (me in A&R at EMI and Anand is an Agent and Touring Manager representing a bunch of electronic artists like Miami Horror and The Aston Shuffle) and our two passions are food and music,” explained the bride. “We write a blog called Food & Tunes so for us everything had to start and finish with those key things. We picked an award winning restaurant for our reception venue. We opted for a standing up/canapé type function and we worked with the chef to create a delicious and filling menu that had everything from an oyster bar to pork belly sliders and their famous snapper and black truffle pie. Then for the music component, we wanted something really different so we had an incredible soul singer from Brooklyn come all the way out to perform, then we had our friend (and Australia’s most talented female DJ) Alison Wonderland.”

Jessica wore a Carolina Herrera wedding dress with Vera Wang shoes, and Anand wore a suit by Vanishing Elephant, their friend’s label. “My favourite thing about our wedding was the laid back feel, the love in the room, the epic dance offs!” concluded the bride. “We wouldn’t change a thing about our wedding – the whole day was perfect!”
