Budget Friendly, Movie Themed Halloween Wedding with Fancy Dress Galore!

Josh and Shandre weren’t afraid of being a little kitsch and over-the-top with their wedding theme. They wanted to tie together a movie theme, with Halloween, while keeping a very home-y atmosphere. They asked their family and friends to dress up as their favourite movie or Halloween character so it felt less like a traditional wedding and more like a house party celebration, which is exactly what they achieved!

Held at the Tuscana Conference Centre in Midrand, South Africa in October 2018, the couple had a $3.5k budget to bring their big day to life. They undertook a lot of DIY and concentrated on the things that mattered! Their biggest expense was the food, from their favourite Indian restaurant, and they didn’t spend ages concentrating on getting ‘perfect’ photos, instead just stopping for a few formal portraits before being fulled immersed in being present in their day.

Bride of Chucky Themed Wedding in Dublin

Bren and Cha’s spring wedding in Dublin was all about the fun. They moved between two venues in the city: The country pub, Anglers Rest, for the ceremony and then on to the reception at their favourite nightclub. The Grand Social. The bride paid €50 for her dress in a charity shop and got it customised to suit her style. Chucky and the Bride of Chucky made multiple appearances, and their friends played a huge part in the day from making the bouquet, decorating the reception venue, DJing, to making the wedding cake.

The pair met at college, studying film. “We are both big film nerds, so I’d say if there was any theme to our day, it was that. Each table was named after our favourite romantic films, from The Apartment to Bride of Chucky, with a corresponding framed still with an appropriate quote. We just wanted to ensure that we reflected ourselves and our tastes completely. We wanted to feel comfortable, relaxed, happy and joyful, and to give all of our beloved friends and family a cracking day out.”

Ru and Matt’s wedding perfectly reflected them. The bride wore a striking Jenny Packham dress with messy, boho hair and they both had their tattoos proudly on display! Their epic cake played homage to their favourite 80s movie, Lost Boys, and they used lots of deep colours in the flowers and decor to show their love of all things Moroccan.

“Our wedding was very music-orientated”, said Ru, “we were also influenced by travel mostly, colour, Morocco, Thailand, elephants and boho! One of my favourite things was our cake from Little Cherry Cake Company. We didn’t want everything to be serious. We also had a Game of Thrones themed card box which I made.”

Devon and Will’s Savannah wedding was themed around their love of cinema but also cats! “We wanted the wedding to be what we liked and celebrated about each other”, said the bride, “so, along with the popcorn, film reel table toppers and ticket invitations, we had handmade elements… and a kitty ring bearer!”

“The cat that acted as our ring bearer wasn’t ours. We wanted to use our cats but travelling to the wedding would have been too much on them. We borrowed Sake to do the honours from the One Love Animal Shelter in Savannah. She was fantastic and I heard she even got adopted earlier that day! Her new family had a young daughter who was thrilled that Sake was a part of a wedding. Judging by our guest’s reactions it was a pretty unique idea! I was also wearing cat pasties under my dress in case the girls came out. They didn’t, but I did end up flashing a bunch of people anyways because I wanted to show them off! They were black with glitter.”
