Self-Solemnised Elopement in The Colorado Mountains

Jordan and Isaiah wanted an intimate wedding. Having met very young and not realised the crushes that they had on each other for many years, they reunited and fell in love over a decade later. Their elopement was an adventure, with no traditional wedding planning.

They chose to self-solemnise their ceremony too, which means they didn’t have an officiant. This is actually legally recognised in in Colorado too making it the perfect extra-intimate choice!

“We wanted to have time together, just us. We’re from and live in Ohio so we wanted an escape and both have love for the mountains. We had our first look and setup a picnic in the woods with pizza and beer. We then self-solemnised (married without an officiant) in the mountains and hiked to a explore a cave and finished off our day dancing in the rain to our wedding song Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton.”

Wild & Romantic Scottish Highlands Elopement Inspo

If there’s one place in the UK the springs to mind when it comes to when you think of running away to elope, the Scottish Highlands is it! Photographer Charlotte Kinsella was inspired by the beautiful Glencoe area while putting together this elopement shoot with gorgeous real-life couple Danielle and Jeremy.

“I also wanted small business and sustainability to be at the heart of it,” Charlotte told us. “I also wanted to create something super wild and romantic all while tapping into my obsession with high fashion and an editorial style. When I came across Coop Couture in my search for a dress, I completely fell in love! Her silk dresses are knitted by hand (by the woman herself, Gracie Cooper) and if the bride so wishes, can be entirely unravelled and reconstructed into a new design. She offers to redesign brides dresses into other pieces after their wedding day, which I thought was amazing.”

Secret & Scenic Colorado Elopement

As wanderers, Karie and Jared wanted to encompass their desire to explore the majestic mountains of Colorado for their September 2020 wedding. Their secret elopement was romantic, scenic, and most importantly – unique to them.

Katie wore a dusky blue Chantel Lauren dress with hiking boots, of course, and an aquamarine ring from Zacchariah Zypp & Co. Jared wore a Men’s Wearhouse suit and his ring was from Jewelfire Diamonds. Karie reminisced; “changing into a wedding dress and suit in the back of a rented SUV while hurricane-force winds threatened to steal anything that wasn’t nailed down kicked off our adventurous and unforgettable day.”

Intimate, Lush & Moody Farm Wedding in the Mountains

For their October 2019 wedding held at Wolf Trap Farm in Gordonsville, VA, Mariah and John decided that something small was best. Their dream day began with an short and sweet ceremony, followed by a gorgeous yet low key reception in the converted hay barn. The bride opted for a Willowby by Watters gown which she bought ay BHLDN and a delicate headpiece by Laurel Lime.

“We met way back when in a crowded bar”, the bride began. “There were only two seats left, so naturally I sat next to the cute guy. We got to talking and he offered me his leftover pizza. I thought that was totally weird and he still insists it was very sweet. A dog, a house and about 7 years later he proposed in our living room.”

Intimate & Bohemian, Adventure Wedding

Jazmin and Nate’s romance developed over a couple of years of travel and adventure. They couldn’t think of any better way to celebrate their unity than by doing what they love and sharing it with a small group of close family and friends.

“This was the most amazing experience we have yet to have together,” explained Jazmin. “We were able to create new memories by exploring Banff National Park & area for the first time with some very special people that flew from all over the US to see us exchange vows. Not to mention, we got to capture all of our first times biking up a mountain, the notorious Moraine Lake, and having the majestic location all to ourselves.”

Magical ‘Harry Potter in the Mountains’ Themed Romanian Wedding

Diana and Vlad’s wedding was an actual dreamland, and I don’t think you’re prepared for what your eyes are about to feast upon. They had three parts to their wedding and each was as incredible as the last: first, their gothic Romanian city hall wedding; a week later, their “Harry Potter in the mountains” themed reception; and finally an after-wedding photo session in Ireland, where they now live. It is just delicious from start to finish.

Their church service and civil bit took place a week before the main reception, giving guests a chance to enjoy a weekend in the mountains – it was important to Diana and Vlad to pay for their guests’ accommodation, so that they didn’t have to worry about their journey home which would have been at least two hours, if not more!

Romantic Rustic Jewish Mountain Wedding

Emyli and Matt’s Denver wedding was rustic and romantic, understated and unbelievably pretty. Inspired by the mountains and an open bar, they brought slick style to the gorgeous wildness for their guests, drawing on their love of the outdoors, motocross, and Emyli’s Jewish traditions for a celebration with serious flair.

Emyli walked down the aisle in a beautiful backless halterneck Sarah Seven dress (and gorgeous lilac hair that’s total #hairgoals) to Hans Zimmer’s You’re So Cool. “Looking back, I wish I’d walked slower down the aisle but I was too excited!” she says. “The sun came out just for our ceremony underneath a chuppah on the Strawberry Creek Ranch lawn and it was perfect. Our small dog, Sarah, fell asleep during the ceremony – in spite of us trying to keep it super short and sweet – so I guess it was a little boring!”

Utah Mountains Elopement: Patrick & Trisha

MountainElopement_JessieAlexisPhotography-60

Patrick and Trisha eloped in Utah, just off the Alpine Loop Road, in Provo Canyon above the Sundance Resort. They had just a few family members in attendance and the bride wore a short lace dress from H&M.

“The inspiration for our wedding was just a desire for a day centered on our union”, explained Trisha. “We just wanted to celebrate our love with a few members of our family! Our decision to elope is definitely what made our wedding unique. Marrying up in the mountains with a small intimate group made it particularly special. And keeping it a secret from most of our friends and relatives made it exciting too!”

Snowed In

So I’m sharing some of Kelty’s work twice in two days but you’ll forgive my repetition after you see these I’m sure. You have to understand, I couldn’t hold off posting these until next week or something because England is currently covered in a blanket of snow so sharing these images right now is more than a little bit apt.

Wed Like Rockstars

You know what, I was supposed to wait until tomorrow to share these but I just couldn’t. It was like having to keep a secret and I’m no good at keeping secrets!  I’m sure many of you have been waiting with baited breath to see these – hell, I know I have been dying to get these out! It’s worth the wait though I assure you.

Carly & James tied the knot at a winery in Sanger, CA. Her dress was an authentic vintage tutu style dress and feathery veil and James didn’t even want to shave on the day – he rocked it though right!? So without further ado…prepare to be blown away by greatness. A Rock n Roll Bride classic if ever I’ve seen one.

Holga Love

I am really feeling the Holga love right now and when I saw these I knew I had to feature them as soon as possible. Shooting a wedding with a toy camera must be a precarious and slightly unnerving job (what if the film doesn’t load? what if the photos turn out badly? what if I loose the film? eeek!) but photographer Daniel Krieger appears to have got his skillZ down and pulled this one off seemingly without a hitch. These images are just making me even more excited about getting my very own piece of plastic joy soon..ahh the light, the texture, the soft focus – swoon!

Daniela & Chris got married at the ridiculously stunning Mohonk Mountain House. Have you ever seen a location so picturesque? Daniela’s beautiful dress is the Fontaine wedding gown from J Crew and she is actually selling it right now on Craigslist. It’s a size 4 and you may well be able to snap it up for yourself (if you’re quick!) you lucky lucky things.

Daniela has also shared a few little tips of her own:
Enjoy every minute and roll with it. The quirks of your wedding are what will make the memories that much better. On our day, it was so cold that the ipod playing the bridal march (dum, dum, da dum) froze (literally!) and the audience had to hum the music. Couldn’t have asked for anything better!!

Thanks so much to the brilliant Daniel Krieger for the photography, and the couple Daniela & Chris for allowing me to share their day.

A Location To Die For…

Anna & Chris, thanks so much for sending this couple my way. I love them!

Wedding On A Ranch

I feature so many completely different and unique weddings which is what makes Rock n Roll Bride so much fun for me. When you compare Giselle & Sean’s stylish ranch wedding with, say Max & Michelle’s honky tonkin’ wedding, they actually couldn’t be any different despite the fact they do have similar elements. Both weddings had a kind of cowboy feel (well featured cowboy boots anyway) but seriously, so different it’s unreal. I love the personality, the individuality and the uber style of both, the different take on a similar idea.
Love these…love Giselle’s dress…love her Bridesmaids outfits…love all the subtle details.

Thanks Jen!
