Fiesta meets Vintage, Kitsch & Colourful Wedding

Alex and Sarah stuck to their guns for their August 2020 wedding, and despite planning it for over two years, decided to go ahead anyway. “When we originally booked our Thursday date, it was because we both work in the music industry so summer weekends we’re usually working at festivals,” the bride told us. “Not only did it end up being way cheaper than a weekend wedding, but our friends and family were more than happy with the idea of making a long weekend of things as they had plenty of notice.”

“As the year unfolded and it became apparent that we weren’t going to be able to have the celebration that we originally planned, we decided to go with the flow and have our day as best we could, which was of course stressful at times with the ever-changing goalposts. Reduced numbers meant we ended up being able to claw back some of our budget, which was a relief as in the planning we’d nearly doubled our intended spend!  We now have a nice little starter for a honeymoon, once it’s safe to travel again.”

Super Colourful Mexican Fiesta Wedding

When a couple cites the movie Up and Mexican fiesta vibes as inspirations for the feel of their wedding, you just know colour is going to be around in a big way!

Louise and Ross met in their local pub one Christmas Eve, and Louise thought he looked like the musician Ben Folds. Ross pursued the romance, however Louise said, “I well and truly friend-zoned him until around a year later when I realised I loved him more than a friend.”

Their summer wedding was at The Cloisters in Letchworth. Describing how they came up with the theme, Louise said, “We stressed for months over this one until we watched the film Up, with all the balloons in bright colours, and it occurred to us that the colours matched our bright bubbly personalities. The penny really dropped when we ate a Mexican inspired dinner and decided that a Mexican fiesta was the perfect idea for our big love day: Our love of Mexican food, a really good party and how the colours reflect us as individuals and as a couple! We got a lot of inspiration from Rock n Roll Bride and Pinterest, and the rest was using our imagination!”

Fiesta del Amor: A Mexican Festival of Love Themed Wedding in Ireland

Jess and Pete love festivals, travelling and they were engaged in Mexico, so these things were what influenced their Irish wedding. They were married in October with an ‎€8000 budget and lots of colourful ideas.

“We wanted a quirky Mexican fiesta weekend and called it Fiesta del Amor (festival of love),” said the bride. “We were inspired by all the places we have travelled and the festivals we have been to. We got engaged in Mexico at a music festival while in a hammock so that’s where the main inspiration came from. When you go to a festival there is always little quirky things to find everywhere like a treasure hunt and we wanted to bring this feeling into our day.”

Their ceremony was held outside and the way they walked down the aisle was really unique. “I decided that I didn’t want to walk down the aisle in front of everyone, we wanted it to always be about both of us”, she continued. “So instead, we did a ‘first look’ and then my dad walked me down while it was only Peter there. When we were both at the front together all our guest entered and we had a roaming band leading them so we could both could greet them. This was my favourite moment of the day because we kept it a surprise from our guests. No-one had a clue what was going on or that we were there waiting down there already.”

Rockabilly Meets Mexican Fiesta Wedding

Rockabilly Meets Mexican Fiesta Wedding (43)

Mel and Lee met through mutual friends at a car show in 2010. They got talking about their cars and that was it! They wanted their wedding to reflect their day-to-day style and interests so, although Day of the Dead was their underlying theme, as far as everything else went, if they liked it they put it in the wedding! The end result was a Mexican fiesta, meets Day of the Dead, meets rockabilly wedding.

The wedding took place at The Green House Hotel, Bournemouth. “We didn’t worry about having a set theme”, said Mel. “The underlying theme was Day of the Dead, but we also just wanted it be ‘us’. We mostly chose vendors that we knew. The photographer, cake maker, florist, band, make up artist and most other smaller contributors were all ether friends, or friends of friends. We are lucky to know some very talented people! We liked how this made it feel really personal and we also made some amazing new friends through planning the wedding.”
