Laid Back Bohemian Destination Wedding in Ibiza

Natalie and Edward got engaged in Ibiza so decided to also have their wedding there! Their day was held in a nature reserve and was bohemian in style and super creative. As they were having a destination wedding they decided to throw the rule book out and ignore tradition.

“We knew the venue well and wanted to keep the day as simple as possible,” began Natalie. “As it was in nature reserve there was a lot of wildlife and flowers around. The venue itself was very minimal and white so it just looked gorgeous as it was. We took pastel coloured paper streamers and tie dye balloons with us but that was it. Neither myself nor Edward wanted a traditional outfit. He wore a gold and black camouflage suit and the bottom half of my dress was rose gold sequins!”

They wanted to keep their wedding small and local, and didn’t want the day to feel like a wedding at all, but instead a special day of bringing together their two families. They wanted it to be relaxed and laid back and to feel just like a big family gathering. They did away with a lot of traditions which they didn’t feel were necessary and only included what was important to them.

Alternative Disney Themed Wedding

Alternative Disney Themed Wedding (26)

Viki and Ben’s wedding day was princess themed, but with added personality. Their official theme was ‘Alternative Disney’ and they were inspired by The Magic Kingdom and the fact that Viki, who is covered in Disney tattoos, had always adored the idea of a huge sparkly dress and a beautiful backdrop. Their cake was Beauty and the Beast themed, the bride’s dress was the Cinderella gown from Alfred Angelo and they took their photos with a Disney inspired prop book.

Their ceremony was held in a National Trust building, and for their reception they just wanted everyone to relax and enjoy the party, rather than having anything too structured or formal. “Our ceremony was held at Rufford Old Hall which is a National Trust building, so all proceeds of the day go towards the upkeep of the building”, she said. “It was held in the Great Hall and we had just 65 guests. However, our favourite part of the day has to be our reception. We had a huge party with all our family and friends. Everyone had an amazing time and they all danced until the very last song. Having all our favourite faces in one room was just fabulous.”

Colourful Back Garden Hello Kitty Wedding

Vikki and Jason had two weddings – one in the UK, where they both now live, and one in Auckland, New Zealand at the groom’s family home.

“We had two full weddings – so two ceremonies, two walks down the aisle, two top tables and rounds of speeches and two cakes!” explained the bride. “With New Zealand being so far away we just felt that we couldn’t only have one wedding because some family members wouldn’t be able to travel that far and we didn’t want them to miss out.”

The total budget for both weddings was around £5500 with £2000 being spent on the New Zealand part. “It was difficult trying to plan a wedding in a country that I had never been to, and with a family I had never met, but luckily Pinterest and Rock n Roll Bride really helped me get the message across of what I wanted to achieve. My mother and sisters-in-law were amazing in getting our brightly coloured vision and our laid back family garden BBQ wedding theme.”

Low Key Wedding at Oxford University

Oxford University Alternative Wedding (20)

They met whilst both studying at Oxford University, so when Xandra and Steve got married that’s where they wanted to do it. “We met at the Oxford University Mountaineering Club during our undergraduate studies,” said the bride. “We had just moved to Edinburgh, so our initial plan was to have the celebrations there. Because we were not too familiar with the city, we found ourselves looking at wedding-packaged things, which felt too traditional. We eventually decided on Exeter College as a venue because it is a special place for both of us.”

“So many people told us that the wedding felt ‘very us’, and that was the biggest compliment”, she continued. “We wanted to have fun, and incorporate things we love, such as Harry Potter, and Disney. We also wanted to pay tribute to our love of rock climbing in some way. We ended up sending our cake makers a sketch of a climbing-inspired cake, with ‘ropes’ of marzipan lining each layer, and 2D mountains on top inspired by a Poosac mountain pillow that was our first purchase for our flat when we moved to Edinburgh.”
