Urban Garden Wedding in LA

Urban Garden Wedding (21)

Sami and Aaron were married at Elysian, a private garden sand event space in Los Angeles. The venue definitely inspired their theme which ended up having a garden vibe with urban touches.

“We got married in a really beautiful outdoor garden area”, said the bride, “and that inspired the design and colour scheme that we chose. Our beautiful ceremony was written by my friends, Craig and Brenda, that happen to be incredibly talented, published poets. We knew we wanted to have a friend officiate us and they immediately popped into my head and they were perfect.”

“You can’t tell by the photos, but it was 108 degrees outside! Literally it was the hottest day of the year! So the ceremony was a perfect length, about 20 minutes, considering, and everyone was very patient and enjoyed it very much which was great to hear! Because it was so hot out, we decided against doing ‘first look’ and opted to see each other for the first time at the ceremony. Leading up to the wedding I kept asking Aaron if he would cry during our vows. He is a very sensitive man, but not a huge crier, so mainly I was joking. But when I walked up the aisle and we saw each other for the first time, I saw tears in his eyes and I said, ‘Don’t you do this to me!'”

Weetzie Bat meets Courtney Love meets Debbie Harry: A Hollywood Boulevard Engagement Shoot

Hollywood Boulevard Rock n Roll Engagement (6)

Augusta and Linus are the type of couple I started Rock n Roll Bride for – fearless, bad ass, creative and seriously in love.

“The inspiration for this shoot came from the bride-to-be, Augusta”, explained Los Angeles photographer Jenn Emerling. “She wanted to capture the grit and glamour of Hollywood since she and Linus love the wild, creative energy of the city, and feel so at home there. Since they’re both artists (he’s a musician and she’s a writer) that are big into Rock n Roll – and also self-proclaimed weirdos – they wanted photos that would capture their quirky relationship and the vibrant Hollywood essence.”

“As far as the fashion goes, Augusta was aiming for a vibe – cute with a punk rock feel, edgy with a touch of sweetness. She says: ‘I’ve always felt like such a mix and mess of styles – I like the juxtaposition of grungy and girly, cutesy and bad ass. These outfits are totally things I’d wear on a day to day basis – giant platform shoes, see through skirts, Hello Kitty pasties, vintage tees.'”

Guerilla Wedding at Griffith Park Observatory

HodkinWedding_LoisFox-68

Joe and Kristina spent $300 on their wedding. They didn’t want anything big, fancy or extravagant, they just wanted to be married. They said their vows up in Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles and afterwards went for drinks and bar food with their friends at Ye Rustic Inn Tavern, where they first met.

“Joe and I met while he was on holiday in Los Angeles”, Kristina told me. “The night I had gone to a big, fancy Hollywood party and felt totally out of place to decided to leave and check out a friend’s gallery show down the road. I don’t usually do this, but afterwards I decided to grab a drink next door on my own at a local dive called Ye Rustic Inn. I ordered whisky on the rocks and sat in the corner when I saw Joe dancing with a friend. I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but I feel as though I loved him as soon as I saw him. I wouldn’t forgive myself if I didn’t talk to him, so I walked over and opened with a silly bit of small talk. We got along famously all night and exchanged info. We were both attending a music festival later in the week and made plans to meet up… Which we did! We had a great time and tried to spend as much time together as we could before Joe headed back to England about a week later. We kept in touch online for about six months, until I finally decided to visit him overseas as a surprise for his birthday. I went to England for about a week (I was nervous how this trip would go so didn’t want to stay too long) and after a wonderful stay, we decided to keep our long distance relationship going.”

A Love Letter to Los Angeles: An Intimate Wedding and a Masquerade Party

Intimate Los Angeles Wedding // Novel Hill

Greetings! If you were offline for the bank holiday weekend you may have missed my post yesterday about the blog’s brand new look! It’s looking so pretty, shiny and new right now it makes me all excited to see my next post go live – ha! But on with the real reason you’ve stopped by today, to see Ren and Angela’s gorgeous wedding.

Held in LA in October, the pair were inspired by the city itself for their wedding. “Los Angeles became an inspiration”, said the bride. “We were both raised in other parts of the country but found each other in Los Angeles over 10 years ago. We’ve lived here together ever since and our wedding was a bit of a love song to the city as well as to each other. We got ready at our bungalow in Silver Lake and were married under the Los Angeles skyline at sunset.”

“Bohemian turned posh as we were driven into Beverly Hills where we dined at a.o.c. on all our favourite foods. There was live jazz and Ren sang me love songs. Late night, we traded Beverly Hills for the grit of Hollywood. We put on animal masks and arrived at Jones Hollywood for cake and cocktails and a masquerade with all our friends! We danced until 4am and found our way home at dawn.”

LED Wedding Dresses from Evey Clothing!

LED_LOVE_Laura_Grier (22)

Just when I think I’ve seen it all when it comes to wedding shoots, something like this lands in my inbox and I start to question everything!!

LA based designer Evey Rothstein was inspired by the lights of Disneyland to create some truly impossible dresses. She explains, “The Disneyland light parade opened my eyes to the possibilities of dreams and imagination as a child. I have always gravitated toward all things sparkle covered and am fascinated by fireflies and bio-luminescence. I love figuring out how things work and playing around with soldering irons, LEDs and fiber optic filaments.”

“There is different inspiration behind each dress. The chandelier dress came about because I was intrigued by the way light shines through cut glass and crystals. I created this fiber optic chandelier dress with a smashed mirror disco ball-like mosaic.”

“The rainbow paint dress was inspired by Jackson Pollock. I envisioned the body as a canvas and I splattered it with fabric, neon colors and light in an abstract experimental way.”

Black & Red Downtown LA Wedding: Megan & Chris

athenakalindi_meganchrisLA-43

Megan & Chris, who met through the online dating website OKCupid, were married in LA. They chose The Chapman, located downtown, for the venue. Their ceremony took place on the roof and the reception was held in Los Angeles Brewing Company, which is located on the first floor.

“Some of the differences in our wedding were due to actually following traditions”, began the bride. “We picked some older ones that have mostly gone out of fashion. We had a very small ceremony and reception for an intimate group followed by an after-party for much larger group. This used to be much more common. We had our wedding party wear their own clothes, not rented polyester suits or equally awful matching bridesmaid’s dresses. But then again, we had mixed genders on each side of the aisle (we each chose a male and a female friend to stand with us), walked down the aisle together and used a piñata in lieu of any cake or other dessert.”

“We had our friend Jonathan get qualified as a Deputy Commissioner of Marriages to perform our ceremony. We never made mention of it during the day, but took note of the irony that as a homosexual man in the state of California, he is not legally permitted to marry someone he loves but he can take part in a wedding by performing the ceremony for the two of us. We look forward to the day where he would have the ability to, should he desire, be a participant in a marriage ceremony himself.”
