Pirate Wedding in Italy

Photostories_Pirate_Wedding_031

Marcy and War’s wedding was pirate themed! The day was held at Castello di Leguigno restaurant in Casina and their ceremony was officiated by a friend. Both the bride and groom wore pirate costumes made for them by Midnight Costumes. They also made the bride’s bouquet from bones, shells and rope. The couple also asked all their their guests to dress up, and everyone obliged!

“I didn’t want a wedding like all the others”, began the bride. “We are both cosplayers and nearly everyone of our guests is too. It’s a really large group of friends and we travel all throughout Italy and attend conventions. The idea of a pirate theme was inspired by Pastafarianism (Church of the flying spaghetti monster!) We wanted to make sure everyone would be dressed up so wearing a costume was a must-do on our invitation.”

“We weren’t really fussed with décor and details, mainly because we figured our guests would ornate the venue enough with the amazing variety of costumes”, she continued. “We just had a few skulls dotted about an a treasure chest cake which we made ourselves!”

Travel Themed Wedding Italy: Ale & Bauz

travel_themed_wedding_giovanna_aprili-99

Ale and Bauz love to travel, so when it came to getting hitched coming up with a theme was easy. They were married in July in Verona, Italy. “Our love story started with a first kiss during the White Night (an all-night arts festival) in Verona”, wrote the bride. “Verona is our hometown but Bauz lived in Spain and he was just back in Italy for work. We had a long distance relationship for two years. After many letters, phone calls and flights, we finally decided to move in together. We lived in Milan for three years and now we live in Madrid. However we knew we wanted to go back to Verona to get married.”

“The theme for our wedding was born spontaneously: all the travel we had to do when we first got together!” she continued. “Travel is also a common passion that always played an important role in our lives. Also, the marriage proposal came during one of our trips, on a beach in Cuba. Because we don’t live in Verona we also planned the wedding from afar. There was a lot of travel involved there too! Having a cohesive theme helped us to create an harmonic event and simplify the decision-making process.”

1920s Themed Wedding Inspired by The Artist: Laura & Geremia

thegreatgatsbywedding_rocknrollweddings-391

If you’re having a 1920s inspired wedding then you are going to adore Laura and Geremia’s big day which took place in Italy in July.

“Our wedding was inspired by The Great Gatsby, The Artist and some Wes Anderson’s films like The Grand Budapest Hotel”, said the bride. “We got married in the Republic of San Marino, the 5th smallest state in the world, and we decided to have the wedding reception in an elegant restaurant. The roaring 20s was a big influence for us but we added modern touches too.”

“We did the centrepieces ourselves by buying pieces from markets in London. We had bottles and the teacups of the beginning of 20th century. Our wedding favours were Franciacorta bottles which we out inside a cotton bag.”

vintagebeat wedding_igloophoto 735

Zaira and Vinicio’s wedding took place in Italy during September. The theme was fashion and music,  things they both love, and the atmosphere was laid back and fun. They kept thing casual with no dress code, live music playing constantly and the free-flowing alcohol!

“Just be yourself”, Zaira advises future brides and grooms. “We loved the theme of our wedding because it was ‘us’! We wanted the day to be a combination of both our styles in everyday life.”

Insane Italian Vintage Circus Wedding: Michelangelo & Francilla

TheWeddingCircus_75_FuckYeah

Unlike so many Italian weddings that they’d been to before, Michelangelo and Francilla wanted a day that was big, ridiculous and most of all fun! They went for a vintage circus theme, and oh boy, they really did go all out on the theme! Francilla told me all about it, “In Italy it’s quite impossible to have a different wedding and not do everything traditionally. It’s so hard to get away from the ‘rules’ that everyone says you have to obey, but we worked hard to make sure we did!  We would have never been happy to marry in this way, and luckily our families knew it!”

“We love vintage images of artists and we love vintage images of circuses. In fact we feel like our life is like one bit circus so this theme was perfect for us! We wanted a wedding that was like us, with our energy, with our irony and with a few little freaky things (again, just like us!) We originally thought about having the party in a circus tent but we really wanted to do something more different still. We spoke to the Casa dell’Architettura, a gorgeous historical place in Rome, but it NEVER been used as a location for a wedding. There is a historic garden there and the ruins of the ancient Roman aquarium! We told them about our ideas and what we wanted for our wedding. We told them we wanted to bring in an authentic antique carousel… and to our surprise they said yes!”

Italian Rock Concert Wedding & a Bride in Black: Stefano & Rossana

therockconcert_annalisarusso (92)

Stefano and Rossana had a purely Rock n Roll wedding at Queen Brasserie, Castelnuovo Rangone, Italy. The majority of the wedding was DIY and the whole shebang cost them less than €5000! However it wasn’t all smooth sailing…

“Initially, the ceremony was to take place in a church, followed by dinner in a restaurant, but two days before the wedding there was an earthquake and we were told that the church was not accessible any more. We had also really wanted to have our meal outside but it was due to rain so we had to make a last minute change of both venues! The alternative location we chose the Queen Brasserie was our first choice from the beginning, since it was almost a second home for us. The reason we didn’t choose it initially was because we thought we had too many guests as it’s not a huge place. However with the earthquake, a lot of people couldn’t come so we had a smaller guest list and the Queen Brasserie was now the perfect size!”

“So on Thursday morning (the wedding was on Saturday) we rushed to the restaurant and begged the owners to see if they could host our ceremony and dinner… thank God they agreed! However in Italy if you want to get married somewhere like a pub or restaurant, you have to have a legal ceremony in city hall. We did this at 8.30am the morning of the wedding wearing jeans and tee-shirts!”

The wedding has a rock music theme with the couple DIYing the paper goods, cake and centrepieces. “We love rock music”, she continued. “and so our theme was an obvious choice. Our home is full of music-themed books and biographies of the greatest rock bands and artists. Stefano plays the drums and  loves to customise musical instruments, so we said from the outset that our wedding would have to reflect this.”

therockconcert_annalisarusso (70)

“A lot of weddings in Italy are boring, traditional and all the same. For us it had to be a party! In Italy it is also very rare to see a bride in black dress and a wedding menu made with gnocco and tigelle (traditional local food). We also wanted all our guests to feel comfortable so we asked the boys to wear the t-shirt of their favourite band!”
