All-Black Everything: A Death Metal Inspired Wedding

The inspiration behind Lauren and Travis’ wedding came from two places; being themselves, and their love of death metal music! “My family were not thrilled about certain things in the lead up to our wedding as they’re very traditional,” said Lauren. “But we didn’t compromise who we were and went ahead with them anyway!”

For the couple this meant staying true to their own personal style. The whole wedding party, including Lauren, wore all-black – and even most of the guests embraced the dress code too (including Lauren’s parents, as a show of their love and support!) They had an-all black wedding cake, with black skull topper and a black macaron tower.

Pastel Goth Polyamorous Wedding with Satanic Rituals

Jair and Lisa met at Club Antichrist, held at Islington Metalworks. As the club nights held there are a home away from home for themselves and many of their friends, they thought it would be a nice touch for them to marry there. It also meant that they could go clubbing there with their guests afterwards!

With a £5000 budget (although in the end they spent closer to £7000), they never expected to be able to afford the venue as it’s so unique, but they visited them regardless to discuss their needs and they trimmed down things they didn’t want or need to help keep the celebration within their budget. Their venue already included the epic decorations, they had bowl-food instead of a sit-down meal and kept their guest list small. Instead of a guestbook, Lisa made origami butterflies for their guests to sign, and she handmade their invites and running order for the day out of signs shaped like tombstones.

Kim and Maik wanted their wedding to be non-traditional and were inspired by Rock n Roll and all things morbid. They described their wedding theme as ‘goth’, with a focus on the colour black. They hosted the day at a really unique venue – the Morbid Anatomy Museum in Brooklyn!

“I’m super into all things morbid, so lots of black was a must,” explained Kim. “Maik isn’t as into that stuff as I am but being the sweetheart that he is he pretty much went with everything I suggested. We just wanted things simple but that we felt conveyed a sense of who we are. We are both creeps so we wanted that to come through. I don’t think anyone was surprised.”

“We had a very short ceremony officiated by one of my best girlfriends from San Francisco, Jackie. Originally we were going to write our vows beforehand but both kept putting it off, so in the end we agreed to just keep what we said short and simple. Maik forgot half of what he wanted to say and I couldn’t say too much because I was already crying before I even walked out! I had my two younger brothers give me away and Jackie read pre-scripted vows that included a quick candle lighting ceremony and great quote from Doctor Seuss.”
