Jill & Neil’s Vintage “Englishness” Wedding

Jill & Neil’s wedding is vintage “Englishness” in every sense of the word. The whole day – from Jill’s floral Fur Coat No Knickers vintage gown, to the London bus that transported them and personalised vintage postcards used as invitations and then re-used as the table-plan – was an authentic representation of the theme they loved so much. “We took vintage inspiration from our own families, finding old frames in charity shops for lots of photographs of our parents, grandparents and great-grandparent’s weddings,” they told me. “These filled the fireplaces of the Lodge and meant we were surrounded by reminders of our ancestors as well as being beautiful pictures.”

“Also, to entertain our guests on our bus trip we had a picture quiz to guess who the couples in the old photos were – with the answers on the back of the original at the venue.  These were in bags made by a charity from recycled newspapers from The India Shop and we also included bus related gifts to keep the children amused – mostly from the London Transport Museum, and old fashioned sweets and goodies.  On the tables we used luggage labels from the Post Office for place names, which my nieces helped stamp with butterflies and tied to mini jars filled with old fashioned sweets from Hope and Greenwood.”

The day also had a lot of very personal and emotion feelings behind it. As Jill had been previously widowed, the couple knew that is would be a particularly emotional day so wanted to make it extra special and beautiful. The service itself was very important to them as they had actually met at the Cathedral where they chose to marry.

Photography Friday – Emma Case, Kittens & Lovely Vintage Dresses

This week I bought myself a new lens. I’m not going to bore you non-photographers with camera geekery but it’s very lovely (I’ve been swooning over it on Twitter, so if you are interested be sure to follow me.) It only arrived yesterday so only the kitten photos are taken with it (lucky me for having such beautiful models lounging around my house all day.)

This week I visited my scrumptious friend, photographer Emma Case in Birmingham who gave me some pointers to using my camera. I’m now so excited to do a photo shoot with some willing victims soon (oh yes! watch this space)

A Sunday Kind of Love – Gareth’s Wedding Plans

This is totally sad so you’ll have to forgive me. Also, it’s 6:30am and I’ve been awake for 3 hours. I don’t know why and maybe my mind is going a bit haywire but I just came up with this ridiculous idea for a blog post so I’m going to run with it.

I was watching ‘Don’t Tell the Bride’ with Gareth the other day (for those of you who aren’t in the UK, it’s a TV programme where basically the groom plans the whole wedding – he picks and organises literally everything – the venue, the dress, the flowers, the invitations, the theme – it’s brilliant!)

I bet lots of couples do this as they watch this show, but Gareth & I got chatting about what he’d do if he had to plan our wedding. Now I’ve either subliminally trained him well or he’s been paying close attention to the blog and just not telling me but OMG his ideas were quite frankly awesome. As soon as he said “short vintage dress from Fur Coat No Knickers (yes he named the shop!), mismatched colours, a kind of summer meadow theme” I was sold! So much in fact that I totally want to marry him all over again and have him plan the whole thing.

Anyway…I thought I’d make a little montage of his vision. Can I just make it clear that I am aware, as someone who got married 2 and half years ago, how incredibly sad this is but I kinda wanted to share it all with you. Happy Sunday Lovin’ people!

How do you think your other half would plan your wedding if you let him? Why not send me your groom’s ideas!?

(Pink) Caravan of Love

Kate & Charles had a vintage, punky and pink (caravan!) wedding on the Isle of Wight. As soon as I saw Kate in her incredible 1950’s cotton lace Fur Coat No Knickers vintage gown I knew I wanted to feature them “They made the bow birdcage veil out of a back panel of the dress and sourced the most beautiful velvet ribbon sash to finish off the dress” the bride told me.

The ceremony took place at Newchurch All Saints Church, Newchurch, Isle of Wight with a reception following at a friend Nick James’ house – Redway Manor Farm. They hired an Indian tent complete with low bench seating, floor cushions and gorgeous lamps from their friend’s Ed & Ana at Ed’s Tents and borrowed the pink ‘Honeymoon Caravan’ from their friend Mel, which the couple slept in that night.

They chose not to ignore a lot of the traditional wedding formalities and just went with the things that mattered to them. They didn’t have bridesmaids or groomsmen and made sure that all the important people in their lives were a big part of their day.

Charles’ Mum made the cupcakes. “She went cupcake crazy and baked up a dizzying array of cupcakes for the afternoon tea party from cherry cheesecake and spiced apple through to jam doughnut cupcakes, along with a couple of bouquet of cupcakes made by his sister Roz. However, the star of the show was a 3 tier pork pie cake complete with a Lego bride and groom which looked just like us!”

Dramatically Beautiful

I love how many UK weddings I’ve been featuring recently. It’s not just my American friends who have rockin’ weddings anymore. Go team GB!

Gemma & Liam’s super stylish, vintage-inspired wedding took place at the moody and dramatic venue of the 13th century George Vaults, Rochester. Just from seeing Gemma’s incredible Fur Coat No Knickers dress and Irregular Choice shoes I knew their wedding would be a beaut. Enjoy these beautiful images people!

Laura & Harry’s Locally Sourced, Eco-Friendly, Midsummer’s Nights Dream, Vintage & Totally Rock n Roll Wedding

Excuse me one second while I scream “EEEEEEEK!” at the top of my lungs, because that’s exactly how I felt when I first saw Laura & Harry’s eco-friendly, vintage-heavy, Rock n Roll inspired backyard wedding. Oh yes, I really do love to feature true Rock n Roll Bride weddings – ie weddings of those that I was able to help and inspire with my little blog. Laura & Harry actually found their fabulous photographer Rosie Parsons and Laura’s gorgeous vintage Fur Coat No Knickers dress after seeing them on the site. Yey!

The vintage theme was infused with A Midsummer’s Nights Dream/literary vibe. The ceremony was held outdoors and all the guests sat on benches in Laura’s Dad’s back garden in Devon. As part of the ceremony, Laura and Harry also planted a tree in the garden and invited all their guests to fill it in with earth which will give them a lasting memory for the two of them every time they visit Laura’s Dad.
