Bohemian Woodland Elopement with a Beach Picnic Reception

Bre and Collin knew that they wanted Big Sur in California to be their wedding destination, but had no clue how they wanted to go about it. With Covid, their wedding plans had to drastically change/ They started looking up photographers in Big Sur and stumbled across Flora Gibson on Instagram. “I instantly fell in love with her style and knew I had to have her as my photographer but we didn’t really know all of our options,” Bri told us. After looking over Flora’s website they saw an option for an elopement. “I was instantly curious and started my research. I found that an elopement didn’t have to be us running away to Vegas without our parents permission. Flora offered everything we wanted from an intimate setting to our picnic on the beach.”

After officially making the decision to elope versus the traditional option of a wedding ceremony, the couple know that they needed to find a way to include family. They decided to host a Zoom meeting where family and friends could join them while they read their vows to one another and had family members write them letters. For this pair, this was the perfect workaround for doing things their way, but also including their families in their big day.

Middle Earth Inspired Scottish Elopement

Dianna and Nathan are big fans of Lord of the Rings, but aren’t fans of being the centre of attention. They decided that an elopement (from one hemisphere to the other!) and a ceremony held in The Shire-esque Puck’s Glen in Scotland was the perfect solution, especially as a forest location was high on the wish list for their day.

“Nathan and I had always wanted to travel overseas to the UK and Europe, and had been planning to do so for about seven years before we got engaged. As I grew up with my grandparents, who were Scottish, I had always wanted to visit, so when plans were finally made and our flights booked, we decided we would elope at the same time and find the perfect setting in Scotland, as a nod to my family heritage.”

Being an elopement, the wedding party was small and intimate. Dianna said, “We flew over to Scotland all the way from Australia with just our celebrant Moira, meeting our photographers Jo and Liam (who also doubled as our witnesses) there on the day.” It also helped keep the budget to under £5,000. “Not including the flights, as we were already coming over, we spent the most on our outfits, and as we had eloped we didn’t need to spend any money on venue hire or food and music, etc.”

As they were staying in a small log cabin next to the glen, the bride said, “We helped each other get ready in the morning, and we wrote our vows to each other the night before – everything was fairly spontaneous.”

Rustic, Elegant & Colourful Forest Wedding

Krystal and Nathan found the lead-up to their wedding full of difficulties, with even the morning itself being nerve-wrackingly filled with the threat of rain. However, the day turned out to be magical and full of colour, love, support and happiness. The bride said that their favourite part of the wedding was that, “We each got to marry our best friend.” Which is a surefire way to melt away any woes!

They were married at Oak Canyon Nature Center in the Anaheim Hills, California, a place that truly meant something to them, as the bride explains, “We actually have a history with the wedding venue. We have been hiking there since we first met. It felt natural to base our big day around this serene environment.”
