1950’s Diner-Style Charm

Holy 1950s wedding awesome Batman! I love it when a couple really get into a theme and do it so well – so well in fact that their photographer Al Overdrive even dressed up as a 1950’s style reporter (photo below.)

Michelle & Craig got married in style at Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Everything screams 1950s retro rockabilly charm – from the pink Cadillac and the diner style grub (giant hotdogs, create your own burgers, fries, waffles, pancakes, ice cream sundaes, Oreo cheesecake!) to the Vivienne Westwood shoes (of which I will never tire) and Michelle’s custom ‘Beverlywood’ Dolly Couture dress.

One Night Only – Beautiful Bali Wedding

I challenge you to find anyone who’s heard of Jonas Peterson and doesn’t love him. His meteoric rise to ‘rockstar photographer’ status has been quite frankly ridiculous but with the credentials and talent he has behind him,I can’t help but know that this success is nothing short of deserved.

So popular is Jonas now that I usually don’t even ask if I can blog his weddings anymore because more often than not they are snapped up by other bloggers quick smart but when I saw Sian & Barry’s beautiful Bali wedding I knew I had to give it a go…and what do you know, he said yes!

I was lucky enough to even get chatting with the couple all about their awesome wedding too. Hella bonus! The wedding was held in the beautiful Villa Pemutih, Padang Padang, Bukit Peninsula, Bali. The couple actually live in Dubai so they decided to employ a local wedding planner to organise most of the legalities and details for them. They really wanted classic local dishes for the food to had a local Indonesian Buffet by a local company, Bali Catering Company including some of their favourites – Gado Gado, Beef Rendang & Fish Curries. The same company also supplied all the cocktails which helped to keep the wedding intimate and relaxed. “We didn’t want to over complicate things, it’s Bali after all” the couple told me!

Doing it Their Own Way

Behold – Magalie and Travis’ darling, teeny tiny, super duper personal, diy-filled, homespun wedding. I fell in love with the simplicity of their day and wanted to share it not only because the photographs are utterly stunning, but because I wanted to show you a perfect example of how to do it ‘on the cheap’ without loosing beautiful touches that make my heart sing.

The pair employed no wedding vendors (except photographer Amber Hughes) for their wedding. They did the whole thing themselves and did it in style to boot! No expensive venue (they got married at home and had their wedding day shoot at Seawall) no over-priced outfit (Magalie wore a dress from BCBG, boots from Chooka with a flower in her hair from H&M.) The flowers were purchased in bulk from different florists in town and the couple put them together themselves. The tissue paper pom-poms were from a Martha Stewart tutorial. They pulled all the food and drinks together themselves and Magalie did her own hair and makeup.

Modern Marie Antoinette

Simone & Matt were married at the Historic Mission in San Diego.  Simone wore a Monique Lhuillier dress from and Christian Louboutin shoes.  After the ceremony all the guests headed over to the Prado restaurant at Balboa Park for an outdoor cocktail hour with hors d’ourves and live jazz.  Before entering the ballroom the couple entertained the guests with giant Bride and Groom pinatas which were attacked by kids and grownups alike.  There was no formal sit down dinner.  Instead guests were welcome to use the sushi bar and the mini kobe burger and fries bar.  Big band jazz and vocals entertained.  Later in the evening the band packed up and a DJ took over while a separate room was opened up with a taco bar and a ‘Tostitoes’ bar.

Before entering the ballroom the couple entertained the guests with giant Bride and Groom pinatas which were attacked by kids and grownups alike. There was no formal sit down dinner. Later in the evening the band packed up and a DJ took over while a separate room was opened up with a taco bar and a 'Tostitoes' bar. The inspiration for the our wedding came after I found my dress. Simone told me It is a Monique Lhuillier gown, but i found it at the Neiman Marcus outlet! My mom works for Neiman Marcus, so I got an even better discount too. It was the first and only dress i tried on. It fit me perfectly. The dress inspired my "Marie Antoinette but modern" theme that I wanted for the wedding. I wanted it to just be like a candle lit party with gold accents and ostrich feathers, something I imagined Marie Antoinette would have done. I also wanted my guests to have fun, so I made the food interactive, I had the photobooth, and the little bride and groom pinatas for everyone to have fun with. The food was all matt and my favorites, especially the tosti locos which are a mexican snack. Thanks to John, Simone & Matt for sharing

Thursday Treats – 10th Sept 2009

I spend a lot of time online (like seriously hours a day) and so of course I come across many a fabulous wedding and non-wedding thing that I don’t want to dedicate a full spot to. So, inspired by one of my favourite bloggers, I have decided on a new little feature. Every Thursday I will introduce you to a few extra treats out there on the world wide web. I hope you enjoy it. Let’s begin…

♥  Problogger spoke about a topic very dear to my heart – the importance of outbound links when blogging.
♥  The Unbride, Justine Ungaro, has relaunched her fabulous blog. It’s had a makeover and is more awesome than ever. Plus to celebrate she is running a veil giveaway from Castle Bride Couture.
Vivienne Westwood has released some brand new colours of the super popular Lady Dragon shoe. I need those red/fuchsia ones in my life asap!
♥  The delightfully dark La Carmina gave us a sneak peak of her newest book – Cute Yummy Time. I can not wait to get my hands on it!
♥ This is kind of last week’s news – but as this is a new feature and I had to squeeze it in. My friend Marina and her band Miss Fitz got through to bootcamp on the X-Factor. Check them out. I’m biased yes but they totally rock!
Design*Sponge posted some super gorgeous downloadable wallpapers on their site. I am currently rocking the  Deanne Cheuk (Light) design.
I Love Lolliblog posted a candy, tully, frothy, gorgeous inspiration board – It’s My Party.
♥ And these lovely people gave Rock n Roll Bride a shout out this week…
