Thrifty, Bohemian Wedding in Northern Ireland: Amanda & James

Amanda and James were married in Derry, Northern Ireland. The day started with the bride getting ready at her parents’ house and a catholic ceremony, but that’s where the tradition ended! Their reception, at Thatched Cottage in Craft Village, was a true reflection of them as a couple. Casual, laid back and thrifty. They spent just £1500 in total!

“Our wedding was bohemian, handmade and vintage inspired”, began the bride. “We didn’t have any bridesmaids or groomsmen (just two witnesses) and chose to keep thing as simple as possible. We wanted a low key wedding, something special and intimate to share with family and  friends… no fuss! We also wanted the wedding to reflect who we are and not get lured into the circus and stress that often surrounds weddings. We aimed to create an artistic, homemade, bohemian atmosphere.”

Utah Salt Flats Wedding Portraits: Erik & Hayley

EmmyLowePhotoHayley.Eric.Bridals-44

Erik and Hayley were married on May 4th and a few days after they went to the Saltair Salt Flats in Salt Lake City, Utah with their photographer for some unforgettable wedding portraits!

“While staying true to their Utah roots, Erik and Hayley wanted a landscape that strayed from the beaten path”, photographer Emmy Lowe told me. “The rugged terrain juxtaposed perfectly with Hayley’s classic dress that screamed unique while maintaining a classic beauty”

“From Erik’s hair to Hayley’s tattoos, they both placed their own unique signature on the shoot and proved that their individual rawness could combine to create something beautiful. My inspiration for this shoot was simple. I wanted something that highlighted them. Nothing to distract the real beauty which was their love.”

Hayley’s gorgeous dress was from Haroon’s Boutique and the flowers were done by Lilac and Honey.

All You Need Is Love Themed New Zealand Wedding: Courtney & Nick

Orini_Wedding_Annepaarphotography042

Courtney and Nick wanted a day that didn’t break the bank. They managed to keep the costs down by shopping in charity shops, accepting help from family and friends and DIYing a lot! They put the flowers together themselves, had a playlist instead of a band or DJ and made their own stationery. Both of their outfits were “lucky finds on the internet”. The designers didn’t matter to them, only that they liked what they wore. The bridesmaids had dresses from eBay.

“Our wedding was loosely themed around ‘all you need is love’, but we didn’t really stick to a genre”, explained the bride. “We drew inspiration from vintage, cottagey garden vibe which you can see in the table settings and all the bunting, as well as the lawn games that included a super fun giant Jenga set. The ceremony was set in a beautiful pine forest, with hay bales as seating giving a forest fairy feel.”

“There were loads of different places we got inspiration from, but most importantly we wanted to make sure that it reflected us as a couple. We wanted a day filled with fun that celebrate our LOVE. The Beatles played a major part, as this is one of our favourite bands, and love of music is one of the first things that brought us together.”

Urban Bohemian Wedding: Kristin & Eric

urban christmas bohemian wedding19

Kristin and Eric were married on 28th December and so they wanted their wedding to have a festive, gilded vibe. They day was held at 1927 Events, a historic space in Seattle. “The time of year really guided our choices”, wrote the bride. “We always wanted a wedding close to the holidays, so we really went for a romantic cocktail and dinner party vibe rather than a wedding. We wanted it to feel really informal instead of the traditional agenda burdened wedding.”

“I’ve had several people tell me how connected they felt to Eric and me that night and that they weren’t just audience members watching from afar”, she continued. “That made me feel like our wedding was so special. In fact my favorite thing about our wedding was how much me and Eric just felt like hosts of a great party celebrating our marriage. We wanted to create a party for people and not a formal gathering. We cherished all our guests and wanted them all to feel important, and also have an amazing time. ”

Industrial, Natural and Cat Themed Wedding: Jessica & Joseph

When Jessica tagged me on Instagram in a photo of her rocking her Liberace kitty ears on her wedding day, I genuinely couldn’t wait to see the rest… and when she then told me the wedding had a subtle cat theme I was even more excited!

“I would call our wedding a strange mix of themes, none of which would appear to make sense in a list, but all of which melted together to be very ‘us’,” she explained. “The location, an old iron foundry, had a very industrial feel that appealed to the groom’s interest in NYC history, while the ivy-covered walls inspired the greenery-centric style of the invitations, signage, and bridesmaid styling.”

“The cat theme came about because we wanted our two cats to be present in some way, and we looked for ways to incorporate small references to them. Each cocktail was named for a cat, custom kitty face stickers were on all the favor packages, and the sparkly cat ears worn by the bride (from the Rock n Roll Bride for Crown and Glory collection of course!) was a really fun touch.”

“The photobooth, complete with an array of masks and props to chose from, added a weird little nod to Halloween”, she continued. “Ultimately we wanted it to be fun and welcoming, and we tried to make deliberate choices about things we liked and wanted to include, instead of going off of a generic checklist for what we ‘needed’.”

Modern Bohemian Wedding at The Flaming Lips Art Gallery: Bryan & Brittany

FlamingLipsWedding_AmandaWatsonPhoto_0058

Bryan and Brittany live in New York but were married in Oklahoma where most of their friends and family still live. They’d planned a very different wedding originally, wanting an all outdoor affair, but, just five weeks before the big day they realised it just wasn’t going to work and they had to find another venue. Panic stations! Luckily, they came across The Womb art gallery, owned by Wayne Coyne, lead singer of The Flaming Lips. They asked him if he’d consider letting them have their wedding there, which he not only agreed to but he came along and partied with them too! Now that, my friends, is pure Rock n Roll.

“Our wedding was a bohemian modern, inspired by Oklahoma and south west wild flowers and all things 1960s”, began the bride. “We didn’t follow a lot of rules. I really don’t like the uniform look that comes with most weddings. I hate when bridesmaids and the rest of the bridal party are forced into outfits that don’t make them feel great and or confident so that’s why our bridal party all look different. We gave them a theme to shoot for so it still came up fun and cohesive! We really just had ‘throwing a party’ in mind for the whole wedding! We wanted to celebrate our love the best we could and the best we knew how! We just wanted something very laid back and uplifting and so very us!!”
