I loved Matt & Brandy as soon as I read their email to me last week. “We are f***ing rock n’ roll because we had the balls to call off a wedding.
We originally got engaged in April 2009 and shortly thereafter set the date for April 2010. We wanted a simple affair which of course spiraled out of control. It became about every one else. We lost sight of what the day meant to us as a couple. The guest list kept getting longer…which meant more money…and more problems. In November it hit us…wtf are we doing????
We ended up calling off the wedding…and calling off our engagement. We became a bit disenchanted by the whole wedding planning and wondered if it was something we ever wanted to do. We absolutely became victims of the wedding stress monster. We never thought it would happen to us!”
See? love them?! Lucky for them (and us!) they did decide to continue down the wedding path, but only if they could do it their way! “Months passed and we still loved one another. We still planned on spending the rest of our lives together so what now?” they continued. “We couldn’t imagine planning another wedding. Ugh. Well…Matt ended up winning free tickets to anywhere within the continental U.S. that had to be used before May 31st 2010. We decided on San Francisco and then we decided…hey…lets elope while we’re there!”
Sarah Kate & John got married in Vegas with only their closest two friends as witnesses. They were hitched in a 50’s diner by Elvis and rounded off they day at The Venetian Hotel and with a ride on the gondola.
A few weeks later the pair held a intimate and gorgeous wedding at Camellia Gardens in Caringbah in the south of Sydney for their immediate family and 10 of their closest friends. Sarah Kate wore a black dress from Bridal Collections Erina, leopard print shoes from Leg Avenue Shoes and amazing limited edition cupcake earrings (there were only 100 pairs made) from Omerica Organic.
The bridesmaids wore hot red dresses imported from The States and boys were allowed to wear whatever they liked because John didn’t feel right making them wear anything specific – they just left it up to them to do their own thing!
Aren’t these wonderful? What a gorgeous couple and wedding party! I am smitten…
Tiffany & Tyler’s images is one I knew I had to blog as soon as I laid eyes on it. I love all the different elements at play here – the doggie, the Converse, the awesome dress…everything! The couple, who met at school, eloped and called their photographer friends Ashley & Stephanie that very morning to pop down and take some shots for them. They chose locations such as their old school to make the photographs really special.
These two (and Nikki, their adopted greyhound, makes three!) were a true joy to shoot, and Ashley and I are so happy they chose us–they are the true quintessence of White Rabbit Studios! Fun, artistic, flirty, bright, and definitely a bit offbeat–all things we love. And, really, could we have asked for better sunshine? I think not. We chose two different locations–first, the (unfortunately) soon-to-be-closed East Clinton Elementary School, and then we reconvened for a few quick, fun shots (and delicious gelato!) at the ever-fabulous Sam & Greg’s in downtown Huntsville.
Tanya & Spike went over to New York from Sydney, Australia to elope in style! I love their simple wedding and killer attitude (not to mention that orange dress!) Photographer Sarah was privileged to be the only witness at the ceremony and then to follow the pair around the city to document their first hours as a married couple.
I got sent a great photo session and a sweet sweet story from photographer Heather Kincaid yesterday and I just had to share.
About a month ago I received an email from Amanda asking if I was available “for a photo shoot the last week of July.” Kind of a cryptic email… Having already shot their engagement session last year, I knew it wasn’t for that. So I had no clue what she was talking about. In a second email she revealed that she and Viet were planning to get married at the courthouse– just the two of them — and wanted me to come along to document their very intimate wedding day. I was so surprised! They made the decision that after eight years of being together, they didn’t want to wait any longer to be husband and wife and decided that on July 27th, their eight-year anniversary, they would make it official. It would be just the two of them making their commitment and celebrating their love for one another.
Tina & Derek’s engagements in a burnt down house are so. damn. cool! I am loving the fireplace, the awesome chair and the feather. These have such an intense beauty to them…much love! Photographer Jen Arthur also shot some post wedding portraits as the couple eloped so didn’t have pro wedding photographs, which I can’t wait to see too.
Terri & Sebastian eloped in Barcelona, just the two of them plus David McNeil the photographer (click here for the photographs) and Claire McDonnell the make up artist…here are their vows to each other.
What is it with all the videos nearly making me cry today?! I was under the impression my cold shell was impenetrable!
David was also featured on Wedding TV last Saturday and I totally forgot to share the link…go see him talking about his work, in particular Terri & Sebastian’s wedding here (approx 26 minutes in) Plus try to spot the me & husband as models in some of the photographs shown…hint my hair is brown!
Daniel surprised his girlfriend Davina by proposing just before Christmas and then promptly whisking her away to Vegas for a whirlwind elopement at the Little White Chapel! Daniel even arranged for the photographer to meet them there to capture their perfectly tacky and cheesy ceremony (their words not mine!)
How very fun! For more of their Vegas wedding clicky here
