Kestrin Pantera, The Wizard of Oz, A Painted Mountain & The Salton Sea

You might recognise the utterly gorgeous singer and actress Kestrin Pantera from her ‘Three Dresses & The Wedding of the Century’ (part 2 here) wedding which exploded all over blog land a in May. Well how lucky am I? It turns out she’s a Rock n Roll Bride fan and so sent me this totally awesome and slightly crazy photo shoot that she did recently.

“Andreanna (the photographer) and I had both always wanted to shoot at the Salton Sea, which is out in the middle of the southern California desert” she told me. “Once she suggested it, I remembered a national treasure right next door: Salvation Mountain, a 50 foot high and 150 foot wide mountain, made totally of local adobe clay and donated paint.”

“The artist/creator of the mountain (who lives on-site, alone, in his truck), is a 79 year old man named Leonard, who has worked on it for the last 20+ years and continues to today. He invited us to take as many pictures as we liked and to stay as long as we wanted, giving us a tour mid-shoot, and bottles of water. We conceived of a Wizard-of-Oz-esque scene (with all of Leonard’s vibrant colors and existing yellow brick road), and since my dog, Batgirl was with us, she played the part of Toto. The dresses were designed by the talented Giuliana Mayo who made the pink dress specifically for my MTV Canada debut in June 2010. Giuliana is kind and brilliant, and has worked with Johnny Depp, Prince, Stephen Tyler, Britney Spears, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, among many other legends. It was an honor to wear her gorgeous designs.”

Superman Chic

The term ‘Trash the Dress’ is thrown about a lot in this industry so it’s nice to see a shoot where I can comfortably call it a ‘real’ Trash the Dress shoot – boy is this David’s Bridal number destroyed!

The shoot took place at Dry Lake Bed in Las Vegas, Nevada and the theme was Superman and Lois Lane having a great time (!) Eric, the groom is a huge Superman superfan and their wedding theme was actually, Superman Chic (which you can see for yourself here.) “Honestly, we just wanted them have a great time and I think that definitely shows” photographer Mike explained. “We believe they are a Rock n Roll couple because Nichole destroyed her dress and at the end of the day, she decided to shadowbox it and hang it in their house as their own personal work of art. Her dress will never be locked away in a box, it will always be on display for all to see and that is pretty rockin’.”

Channelling Steve McQueen

When Christina & Mitch turned up to their engagement session with their beloved ’68 Corvette in tow, photographer Clayton Austin was instantly inspired and channeled Steve McQueen as the idea behind the shoot. As a little bit of a petrol head myself, I can totally relate to how Clayton described the day.

Fusion Video – Dry Lake Bed Engagement Session

The fabulous Chelsea Nicole  has just launched her new Fusion Video venture, offering videography to her lucky couples. She sent me this a-a-amazing example from Kory & Trent’s engagement session in a dry lake bed, Las Vegas, NV. Doesn’t the video really bring the images to life?

Coolest couple ever or what?! Rikki & Christian certainly rocked out on their engagement shoot – complete with motorbike, rockabilly styling and that way-too-cool vintagey parasol. I don’t think I even have to mention the tats…you know I love them!
